I was checking out the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame site, and they were soliciting input on the 2009 nominees on their blog. Now I don't know Evan, but Evan apparently really likes Genesis (and typing). Re-posted for your consideration:

Genesis: 1.Has been around for over 40 years, one of the most longevic ever. 2. Over 150 MILLION albums sold, top 30 highet selling of all time. If you include all of the alubum sales that the members of genesis have been involved in their is well over 500 million. ONLY behind ELVIS and MICHEAL JACKSON. (both have 1 billion) 3. Pioneered in areas of Progressive Rock, acoustic progressive rock (which is unheard of. songs average time around 9min). other prog bands all stayed in the same general prog area, except genesis. 4.They are around the #1 live band of all time. Because in the early days Peter Gabriel revolutionized the concert into a stage show with costumes and insane stage personas, they then went on the Invent the Vari Light!(FYI: the lights every band uses in there concert to this day) Pioneered the prisim Sound system(Again FYI: Sound system that is now the staple for all concerts arena sound systems) 5. First band to every have a sold out arena tours. 6. First to every play 4 sold out shows at the world famous Wembley Stadium in London. 7. Went threw the biggest most surprising lead singer swap in the history of rock. and then became even bigger and 10 months after losing peter gabriel went to create a top charting album, THEN AFTER THAT, 10 months later AGAIN cam out with an even bigger album. How many top bands can do that nowadays? NONE! 8. First to ever play 4 stadiums, back to back to back to back. 9. Spawned two of the most succcesful solos cares in rock, Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel. not to mention Mike and the Mechanics. 10. Genesis guitarist Steve hackett First to every record GUITAR TAPPING on an album. Also popularizing sweep picking. 11. Created some of the most intricately arranged music in rock history. 12. Held one of the Biggest concerts of all time 500,000 strong. ANd it was FREE! 13. Pioneered that largest video screen ever used in a concert over 230FEET! (20 million dollar stage) 14. At one point during the 1980’s Genesis was considered the richest band in the WORLD, But admit to not once arguing over money over money. 15. Perhaps the best documented band of ALL time, 14 studios albums, 5 live albums. and over 30 offical record realeses. 16. Voted Best live band in the world. 17. Ground breaking at the time, they were forced to stop When Peter gabreil Nearly died when the wires got tangled up around his throat and started to lift him of the ground. THe idea was to revolutionary for the time. 22. Had the balls to go on tour before the release of the album. Including going on tour before the realse of a Double CONCEPT ALBUM! INSANE!! 23. Peter gabriel was recruted by the top film maker in Hollywood ( who wanted to revolutionize hollywood) at the time in order to be used as an ideas man because of Peters radical concepts in genesis. 24. PHil Collins only person ever to play in both Live AID concerts on two different contienents on the same day.(FYI: the biggest musical event in the history of the world) 25. Phil Collins the first to ever incorperate black musicains and music into popular music. That is HUGE!!!! 26. PHil Collins had a concert in berlin, that week the Berlin wall fell…

I went to see Genesis in 2007 at Old Trafford. Was actually very good.

TheLambLiesDownOnBroadway, Genesis-Genesis, InvisibleTouch, Duke are all good stuff... Gabriel up to 'So' was also great and the same applies for Collins up to 'No Jacket...' + some of Mike n His Mechanics was alright too!

We shouldn't forget that phil colins famously put an end to world poverty when he sang 'Another Day In Paradise'

I had to drive down to Watford in my then bosses car last year. I found a Phil Collins CD in the glove compartment and stuck it on. It was fantastic. I Wish It Would Rain Down On Me, Separate Lives, Against All Odds, Take A Look At Me Now... and, yer know, all the other ones. What a great drive it was.

In the interest of full disclosure, I did like Phil and Genesis in the mid 80's, but that was before I discovered "alternative" music (a.k.a. college radio). In fact, my first two adult concerts were Phil touring for No Jacket Required and Genesis touring for Invisible Touch. Hey, we didn't get many concerts where I grew up!

My first alternative concert was Echo & the Bunnymen touring for their self-titled album sometime around '88.

28. GENESIS in the early '70s regularly put on a live show SO SPECTACULAR that half a dozen people in the front row would routinely go into CARDIAC ARREST. But NO ONE DIED because Phil Collins INVENTED CPR based on a drum beat he pioneered and taught it to the rest of the band as a precaution. That is why TO THIS DAY people resuscitated from near-death experiences consistently report seeing PETER GABRIEL at the end of tunnel of light. FACT!!!

It's actually an amusing read for the most part; the prog rock community is up in arms that Rush, Yes, Moody Blues, ELP et al have been overlooked by the Rock Hall. And they certainly make a good case.

Smiths get some love. And Chicago fans have a gripe as well.

My favorite among the suggestions (besides Kraftwerk) is Cheap Trick. I mean, they are the definition of the Working American Rock and Roll Band.

I really do think Genesis should go in to the hall of fame, they're brilliant, IMO
