I'm very excited about the new Editors album which comes out (I think) on Monday. They debute'd a good few tracks off the album at Bella back in August and they sounded ACE.

Interesting that you opted for the easy get-out on the two older bands, rather than commenting on some of the great new tracks.
Cardiacs were/are apolitical and the Chumbas would be horrified to be thought of as left wing. Have you heard the track, "Tony Blair"?
Yes, I agree that Cardiacs (1976 - present) and Chumbawamba (1982 - present) aren't necessarily "new" but the material they come out with is (in my opinion) far "fresher" than the erm... "stuff" in the charts at the moment - surely you can't deny that...
How about listening to the other tracks and giving an honest opinion? I won't take the piss - seriously, they're f**king good, aren't they?

I love Editors and they performed a few of their new songs at Bingley Fest last month - particularly like that 'Papillon' one

yeah, that one burt posted was ok enough, but dull.
the first half dozen that chris posted were pleasant too, and very listenable, but not memorable in any way. they all sounded pretty much the same, i thought. not just as in the same genre, but practically the same band. (oh, not the pirate fellows. i did not like them.)
that's as far as i got, sorry. i'd rather do almost anything than fill in health and safety risk assessments (this afternoon's task), but even so i was flagging by then.
you can't declare a band the next big thing based on one showing. i got excited about metronomy for about five minutes before i lost interest entirely. the only group here i'd be bothered to look up more of were those bayonet ones. quite liked her vocals.
are the temper trap the next big thing or the current big thing? they were just doing the rounds playing nice little venues for a tenner, but i couldn't get a ticket anywhere.
i'm a bit sick of TNBT. you could see la roux and little boots coming a mile off and they've been nothing but a disappointment for me. the music industry seems awash with medium-ish things but nobody really outstanding or with any longevity. is anyone 'big' anymore? who was the most recent genuinely big thing (i.e. critically and commercially acclaimed, still popular, going from strength to strength)? elbow?
is it friday afternoon? it feels like friday afternoon. can i go home yet?

Yup... Quite drab, twee bubblegum pop. Instantly forgettable IMHO. No edge to any of them.. nothing new in there. Not surprised that are unsigned. Next Big Thing?
wouldnt buy an album at drop of an hat anymore of the 'next big thing'. usually end up liking the first 2 singles that ive already heard that are then at the start of album plus maybe 2 more near the end. recent examples --- neon neon,florence,and a few others. maybe i should stick to obtaining single tracks more these days rather than albums, like the 'kids of today' do. dont seem to do a full decent album to back up what weve heard/seen. some good tracks still come out these days though for sure

It's fabulous. Amazed no-one else picked up on it, especially given that (a) a large percentage of the American contingent seem to spontaneously orgasm at the mere thought of the word "synthesizer" and (b) it sounds in large parts like Depeche Mode's "Violator" on Temazepam.
