Well, a promotion, a special, that made people buy the single? I have no idea why those two songs are still in the top 30. Closer is still a club favorite, but for the Radiohead song, I have no idea, in fact I don't even know that one !

Humidity - don't we all just love it? Here in UK it's been muggy as hell for quite a while now (global warming it is then) with short periods of hot stifling sunshine punctuated by predictable heavy torrential rain and thunderstorms (like one gets here in Britain all the time now) and the bank where I work in had its air conditioning fail just two days ago and of course, it's been absolute unbearable here - yer can't even strip to the waist if your life depended on it...I hate wearing ties as it is!

I'm always curious to see what's hot in other cities around the world, especially that the Billboard Single Chart is mostly R&B scrap (which I hate)...
I've only heard 6 of these songs...guess that makes me lucky?!?!?!?!?!
Just had a visit to the website of the supposed #1 Radio station here in the Dallas area...and here is their top 10...now remember...I am spelling everything just like they did...it's not my fault!!!

It's interesting to see how a thread about radio charts can turn into a discussion about weather and humidity. :)
Contrary to what I thought it seems that Coldplay are unlikely to enter the UK singles chart at number one this Sunday because according to a midweek chart their single "In My Place" isn't selling as well as Darius Danesh's single which went into the charts at number one last Sunday. Coldplay could still make it to number one but it seems that their record company either isn't bothered about getting the single to number one (which is strange because if you're going to play the chart game you might as well play it to win) or has made a miscalculation (such as only releasing the single on CD, not putting the video on the CD or not offering it at a discount). So it's a good job I didn't put any money on it going to number one.

Sorry, I should have explained what midweek charts are used for. During the week the compilers of the singles and album charts release provisional charts based on sales for the first few days. These are sent to record companies (who then decide whether or not a certain release needs to be promoted more heavily) and those record shops that request them (who should use them to help decide what stock to order in time for the weekend which is the peak sales period) but increasingly music journalists have taken to publishing stories about "the race for the number one spot" based upon midweek charts and midweek sales figures. The official UK singles chart based on sales for the whole week is broadcast on Sunday afternoon/evening and many more sales and airplay charts are published in Music Week, the incredibly boring music industry magazine.
For a more detailed explanation of how the UK singles chart works there is a thread called "Here To Stay" which began in April on which the various strategies the record companies were using that week (when new singles from New Order, Oasis and Doves were released) were discussed but it may bore you to tears.
