Saw it last night. Alas, I knew I wouldn't like it and I didn't. I detest the color blue.

To sum it up: Commando + Alien (+ new King Kong) in a world that is set right in your face to resemble that of an aquarium (corallike plants, flying jellifish & blue people).

Women are completely asexual, they have kinda boobs but they're covered. I guess Adam & Eve from planet Earth had something to do with it.

As for the film's idea, I'm afraid it's buried too deep under tons of napalm and debris of helicopters.

Did I tell you it's a long ass movie that lasts 2.5 hours.

A friend of mine saw it yesterday with his 2 sons. They all loved it.

I haven't seen it yet, and probably wont see it either.

saw The Road instead. great film. forget the smurfs, and i wont even mention the other stinker thats out.

It's a film where the visual effects detract from a scheme F story. Sad that a lot of people like it just because it's 3D.

Anyone here dare to tell me that I'm wrong and that it's an amazing new innovative story?? Would you have watched it if it has been just 2D?

Why didn't anyone go see "The Fountain" then? That's what I call "visual and story both amazing"-movie.

Sorry I'm working in a multiplex as most of you should know. And I don't get the hype. We have 2 (of our 14) cinemas with 3D technique and they are booked out for 2 days in advance (24/7) :eek: . Allez le bleus... :nonono:

*Edit: And let me guess who gets all the OSCARs.

In one great American word: AWESOME!

Disagree with the bunch of sneerers on the board, it does have a good storyline. But most importantly, its the first movie where 3D isn't a bunch of gimmicky crap... it is part of the movie. Some of the best classic novels spend time describing scenery, and that's what this movie does best. The depth of visual description on the background is unprecedented.

Definitely a must see in the theater, 2D dvd will take away from the best part of the movie... (which is far more than ooooh, aahhh CGI effects).

Went to see it today on Imax, jesus that film was shit, i'm still wiping the parmesan off my face it was that cheesy, i don't quite get what all the fuss is about to be honest,

The story is poor to say the least, and been done many times before. and alot quicker it was so drawn out.

The CGI is good,the landscape scenes were impressive but i just kept thinking as i was watching is this it, whens the blow me away stuff coming, and i didn't think it ever did.

i'll say one thing though, i've never seen such a diverse age group of people in a cinema, so Cameron has succeded on that level. and i guess so has 20th century fox's hype department.

Ok, it was pretty cool. A bit to long and all that, but pretty cool with the 3D thingy.

Kids loved it, and that's what matters for me.

I don't think I'll be rushing out to see Avatar. But this looks shit-hot! Big fan of the original,brilliant!First film I ever saw at the flicks. Interested to see what they've done with this one :nod:

Ahhh... original was a Harryhausen stop-motion classic.

Saw it in 3D this afternoon. Certainly the most visually impressive film i've ever seen but the storyline didn't really give much of a lasting impression once out of the cinema.

Er, why did it take so long for a scenario to arise where Jake Sully's Avatar was out cold because Jake wasn't connected at that time when Netari or any of the N'avi or whatever they're called were awake? So every time Jake was disconnected from his avatar all the rest of the N'avi were asleep were they? Or maybe i wasn't paying full attention as usual.Only much later after Jake's avatar had spent a lot of time with Netari and the natives did the situation arise.

Final battle was impressive though, aye.

A remake of a mythologically incorrect storyline? I could let it go for that one film, but they are going to persist with the meshing of Perseus, Jason and the Argonauts, and Hercules as one storyline? Would have much rather see the remake of this film:

I thought the special effects were great. Threy really did bring Pandora and the Navi to life, and you can see the real actors' facial expressions.

However, the story was nothing special. It was OK, but a bit trite. I'd give the special effects maybe a 9 or 9.5, and the story a 6.

Avatar was well made, but a great shame that it was plotless once you take away erm... the plot from Dances With Wolves. It was the same story, but with blue cartoon people.

I wouldn't recommend seeing it unless it's on Film 4 and you have nothing better to do. Better still, just watch the director's cut of Dances With Wolves - far superior in every way, which is unusual for Kevin Costner.

Films that may appeal more and certainly did to me, were:

Inglourious Basterds (US "elite" troops in WWII lead by Brad Pitt - you think it's serious, then Tarantino's humour shines through. Interesting film)

An Education (Film 4 release, English production - 1960s, Young Girl "coming of age")

Waiting (A "Clerks" vibe - nothing happens, but it happens interestingly)

Paranormal ("Blair Witch" style, but better filmed and with more "scary bits")

Nothing But The Truth (True story of female journalist imprisoned in the US for refusing to divulge her sources)

Harry Brown (Michael Caine helps pensioners get their own back. And no, I'm not talking about urine soaked matresses)

Outlaw (Sean Bean, Bob Hoskins, Danny Dyer - amateurs become vigilantes - the younger man's version of "Harry Brown")

Vantage Point (Forrest Whittaker, Dennis Quaid - the same story told from several different vantage points. Keeps you guessing and the editing is pretty good too!)
