I'm leaving us brits wide open to a string of abuse from other countries that get a lot more snow than us, but load up your snowy pics, this is Preston at 7am this morning, while waiting for the bus to work (it was 20 minutes late!)

Is winterhill that place with the big ring of fucking huge vertical antenae on it? I remember seeing such a large array from the coach somewhere between lancaster and manchester, but can't remember if it was up a hill or stuck out on a headland near the coast.

Yes, the Television mast for most of the Northwest is up there.
Still can't get a decent signal though 
It's not though, is it? Any more.
They switched it off as part of the digital revolution.
Granadaland is no more.
Before the switchover I was struggling to get channels.
Now have a Digi box in every room and can't get a signal!
I rarely watch telly, but would be nice to get a proper picture when I do.

Right, I know the place you mean, yeah it's chuffing massive....must have near line of sight across most of the width of the country. The place I originally had in mind, now I think about it, is further north, on the right of Mway as you head south, looks like a gigantic cricket practice net, masts must be 500ft if they're an inch. Has the look of an old Chain Home radar array on growth hormones.

I'm sure regional identity was stronger before regional TV, the demise of it should have no effect at all, not that I approve of that though, it did give me plenty of chance to see factory related stuff that the rest of the UK and world didn't, thanks to Tony Wilson being an employee of Granada.
We do still have regional news so it isn't completely dead.

don't have the book to hand right now to check but there was something about a connection with the end of regional stations to something in the regional consciousness
