fookin bastard virus ! READ THIS!

Got a Virus called SECURITY TOOL on thursday from playing Games on Facebook.

Its a nasty fooker that hides itself in Java games applications and is a proper BASTARD to get rid of!

Its proper fookin annoying always popping up etc.

It starts scanning on its own telling the user that this computer is infected etc,it is a scam to get money out of the peeps.

I managed to get rid of it,well my good mate MIKE got rid of it for me by using CCleaner and disabled the bastard from the start menu.

Hopefully the fooker is gone now and i am BACK!

What virus checker were you running when you got infected and on what operating system?

My missus canes Farmville like you wouldn't believe and will click on any old shit that pops up ;-(

I put Microsoft Security Essentials on her Vista laptop. It was free so suspect it's easy pickings to the average virus writing wanker.

great to hear it's fixed , Steve I don't really play any Facebook games these days so hopefully won't encounter that virus.Recently had my Windows XP uninstalled and reinstalled and it's working like new now.fucked off all the viruses and shit that had built up over time.not going to download anything from now on, film torrents, music torrents etc are all history in case i aquire crap viruses again

Also, now using Comodo anti virus instead of AVG. Seems to apparently be keeping the virus writing wankers at bay so far, a month or so in to using it.

I'll give Comodo a go. At least Microsoft getting involved in free virus checkers has probably made everyone else raise their game as a result.

It has either come from a Facebook java game/app whilst playing,believe it or not POOL PRACTICE!

The virus/rogueware/malware starts "scanning" and fools the peeps into thinking that they have a gazillion virusus,it then constantly and rather infuriatingly pops up with the "do you wish to continue unprotected" garb,then every time you try and close it it pops up AGAIN! After a while it corrupts your keys and you cant type in anything into the searchbar.

I currently have avg9,windows defender,zone alarm,spybot search and destroy,adaware installed and the cheeky fooker bypassed THE LOT!

I went on loads of techy/geeky/cambo type forums and some peeps had ACTUALLY PAID security tool to remove NON - EXISTENT VIRUSUS.

I managed to delete the file from the vista start menu AND turned my pop up blocker On,then removed it by deleting the file name/number on programme data,then deleted/disabled it using CCLEANER.

It may not be yet gone as some peeps have said that it comes back after a few days,heres hoping the fooker is exterminated!

Yes - AVG just seemed to churn away and slow everything down whereas MSE seems a lower overhead altogether.

Like I said it was for the missus. I'm running CrunchBang Linux, another Ubuntu derivitive which is fast and light and doubtless like other Linux version, no-one can be bothered to write viruses for it as it is not as popular!

It installed in 8 minutes and everything works - all from a free download that fits on a CD.

I've gotten some decent answers about stuff off crunchbang's fora. Sorta sold on *buntu these days. On the upside, everything just works (my mate fixed all his granny's trouble by bunging ubuntu-netbook on her desktop.....networking worked again, no viri, and a desktop she can see), even mobile broadband (on my netbook from plugging modem in until being connected....Windows XP (for which drivers are provided) 8.5 mins, Ubuntu-netbook-remix ("unsupported" according to makers), 2mins 10s).

Ubuntu is moving SO fast these days too. I'm running a beta of Lucid Lynx on me laptop, but it's very well updated so it's not very beta. Everyone should keep an *buntu CD around for the day their windows has died and they need to get online NOW.....or the day their monitor is blank and they need to know if they have to buy a new one or just fix windows).

Windows 7 is kinda sexy, now they've nicked all KDE's bst bits. Been using it since Jan, and only now suffering the first real hassles (the vanishing hard disc for example.....gives every impression of a dead drive.....except it's absolutely fine...and will pop back up after a random number of boots.....all the more hilarious since the bootloader is on the drive.....so the bootloader launchs windows.....which then claims the drive containing the bootloader is toast) and cubase is being a dick. Apart from that it's very much a non-pisstake version of vista.

The best anti virus is havin a clue about what sites you visit in Dos based OS's (yeah....it was facebook, course it was). Aside from that, comodo, avg, kaspersky....all good, in fact ANYTHING other than Norton (or any of symantec's other guises) or MacAffee (watched that cunt stare RIGHT through a virus that was eating a machine alive). On balance, the virus will be less upsetting than either of those in day to day use.

Oh, and ppl don't do viri for linux because it's obscure, AND COS IT'S A CUNT TO GET IT TO TURN ON IT'S USER!!!!!!!

I work in IT and we're going over to Windows 7 in the next six months from an XP desktop (25,000 users) and then they're going to lay half of us off (as the result of all the functionality like remote rebuilds and remote support that work how it always should have done).

So I for one liked W95/ W98/ W2000 & XP. Their idiosyncracies have kept me in work for 14 years!

I'm even thinking of buying a copy!

Given that it's now more or less fit for sale.

EDIT: just to be clear though.....KDE4 kicks Aero to death.

For resusitating older machines and for the thoughfulness of the whole package (VLC + Firefox + BitTorrent client) all built in, Ubuntu wins. The fact it is free and is improving in leaps and bounds (I wasn't a fan until Ubuntu 8 was released) means if I ran my own business it would be some some sort of free distribution + Google Docs for storage and communication. Lets face it, if I ever go online and Google isn't there, the world must have ended :-)

For polish and applications in a professional environment I guess it's still Windows. Linux can be a bit nerdy (sorry Doctor) so the average twat, er sorry, user.

Plus Linux can be too mental for it's own good. The time I've wasted trying to configure Myth TV and then Mythbuntu boxes is silly when XP + GBPVR does 95% of what I want for 10% of the effort.

All down to taste then I guess. A computer is a computer as the end of the day. Now W7 and Office 2007 are comparatively cheap they're a realistic option.

Yeah, well were still on Office 2003 and some of our departments have databases which still use Access 2.0 (!) with the sophisticated ones use Access 97, so let's not get ahead of ourselves. ;-)

They tried to roll Office 2007 2 years ago and pulled it at the pilot stage as Outlook crashed our Exchange Servers...

Cambo has ALWAYS had a bar on over linux so i might have to have a looksie at that.

Actually, I reckon the average winuser just needs a big button to make facebook come up, and for that, even the geekiest linux will do the trick. It's your "improver" who'll fall out with it, the one who wants to change things a little, but can't be arsed making any real effort. Also, anyone who has never used windows finds linux a lot easier (for example, the single click Vs Double click business will catch out most windows people if they don't change it...not to mention not having to click "start" to stop the computer).

Newer Ubuntu's are Way easier to install and set up than any version of windows, and give you a machine that can actually do more than web and mail out of the box. If you've not tried it in more than 6 months you're WAY out of date.

MythTV=ulcers, so use somthing else. But having tried to use my tv card in Vista and XP, I consider any hoop jumping I had to do in Linux to be a small price just to see some fucking telly.

Oh: Drivers=ancient history. I've yet to plug anythin into ubuntu that it even asked about a driver for. Windows 7 can't use my printer after 2 hours fucking wth drivers....plugged it into netbook, no reaction at all, but hit "print" for a laugh anyway....out popped my document.

There are many true things said against free software, but the whole drivers thing is SO 2002 I'm afraid. I will challenge anyone to see which works better and faster with new hardware (FFS windows has to "install device drivers" for external HD's ROFLMAO). Don't make me dump a kernel config in here showing what it supports and what it doesn't.

which are unarguable, I'd just add that once your build your PC to begin with and are happy with it, take an image of it using something like Symantec Ghost. It'll save you hours in the event of a restore.

Cost=£0 (OK 650MB is probably 7 timea your monthly limit on your unlimited broadband). Risk=0 You run it off CD like a playstation game until you decide you like it, THEN you install it BESIDE windows (windows on the other hand seeks out any other OS and deletes/fucks it), or even install it on a windows system like any other program, but this is kinda daft to be honest. Download latest version Burn CD start PC from CD enjoy.

Even if you hate it....it will get you online in an emergency and it will always serve as a second opinion on iffy hardware.

Acronis Trueimage is less of a twit than ghost. Any passing linux boot disc can do the same thing too...but slower...acronis (who's boot disc uses linux anyway) knows something about hard discs that nothing else knows and can get data on and off them so fast you'll swear it actually crashed but hushed it up.

Very wise thing to do.....get it installed, get your drivers in, do the basic stop-it-feeling-like-a-jabenjero-tampon setup, then image image image. Then do a rolling backup every now and then of course, but it's always nice to have a "base" system to fall back on.
