Whatever your politics I suppose having so many of the movers and shakers in your country wiped out in one plane crash is going to impact. So Arek and the rest, hope it all turns out well.

Thank you James. Many valuable and wise people died today. What can I say? Katyn is a damn place for us, for all the Poles since 1940. The history sometimes repeats itself.

Must be awful over there - we've got a lot of family there. Look at the wiki recent deaths page and it looks like half the cabinet have gone.

Horrible stuff, very sad.

Part of me does wonder why the security in charge of so many movers and shakers allowed them all to board the same flight? There did seem an awful lot of key people on that plane. It's one thing the President being lost in such an incident but looking at the roles of the others it's surprising so many important people were allowed to convene in the one "risky" place.

that is first, and second is it was an old, bad-shape plane. a few pilots already refused to fly this damn machine. last year one of them said "I am not brave enough to steer this plane". it should not happen in a coutry like this. thank you guys for your posts.

Still, must be nice to have a govt worth grieving over. If our lot made an unscheduled landing like this, there would be parties in the streets.

The security bosses in NI did the same shit, put ALL their top intelligence boys in one chopper and flew it into a scots cliff. Some say it's why the UK govt surrendered to the IRA not long afterwards, since they'd lost all their best men.

How true. This is exactly what I thought.

Condoléances.

Terrible news, I couldn't believe when I saw it in the telly. My condolences, not just to polish NOOLers, but to everyone there...

My condolences, this is an awful blow to the Polish government and the social structure within. Unfortunately I am not familiar with the politics, so not sure what type of man the Polish President was. Regardless, I hope Poland can recover from this quickly and hopefully this unites the country.

I'm shocked. Things like that just happen in movies. Condolences from my side. And I hope the country will recover from this loss.

According to whom? I'd much rather have another Labour government than any of the realistic alternatives.

Please don't be hyped up by the press, what have this government done that is supposedly so bad compared to, say, Thatcher's? Mismanagement, maybe, but compared to deliberate destruction of entire communities, well, its not even comparable.

Now, if you are talking about deaths where there WILL be singing and dancing in the streets then Mrs T is the direction you need to be looking.

Condolences to Poland.
