Has anyone go a fool proof way of getting rid of ants?

The little buggers keep creeping into my kitchen and living room and I've tried everything to get rid of them. Last summer I encircled the exterior wall of my house with ant power and they still broke though.

OK, so it's not exactly like Starship Troopers yet but that ant powder is the least effective rip off ever.

It might seem a bit obvious (and expensive), but repointing your brickwork usually helps.

Fill around any waste pipes/vents.

When you next see the ants, go outside and see where they are getting in and sprinkle some ant powder.

Ask Adam and the Ants to come round and lead them away in a pied-piper stylee.

Or just get Michael Flatley round to riverdance where they come in.

(Only 3 of the above will actually work)

Buy an aardvark, that'll sort the little blighters.

What do you call an aardvark that's just won a fight? A well'aardvark!

What do you call an aardvark that's just lost a fight? A vark!

Of course - an ant eater. I should have thought of that ;-)

Missy Jem - are you saying you've actually seen ant powder actually work on the ants? I'm sure this is just a racket spread around by B&Q who have warehouses full of this crap and are just trying to shift it.

Thnks for the tips though.

Boiling water or a magnifying glass are fun, but obviously won't get rid of the underlying problem... :p

Do we still get flying ants over here?

I haven't seen flying ants in years.

They were particularly nasty critters.

Yeah - last summer I was washing my car with a pressure washer and before I put it away I thought I'd fire the pressure washer down the drain to clear any leaves. Had it on for about a miunte, walked round the back of the house and the entire cast of Aliens was climbing out of the drain hole around the back trying to escape. There were bloody loads of them. Mostly flying ants. Nailed most of them with Crawling Bug spray.

But I need something I can put down as a deterent rather than chasing them all down when it's too late!

Good idea Geno. I bet you can pick one of them up for next to nothing off ebay too.

I'll show those ants who's boss.

i bought this stuff that they pick up and take back to the nest and it kills them all, used powder outside where they kept getting in. Not had them come back for ages.

too much volcanic ash for them to fly now! I'm pretty sure lava will kill the bastards too!

I tried the poison stations last summer too where the ants take the poison back to the nest and it didn't work for me. They must be some proper hardcore ants. It'll have to be the tank with the flamethrower for sure.

Doesn't anyone from somewhere more exotic than Dagenham have anything I can try? There must be somewhere in the world which has foot long ants with teeth where New Order are popular!

Sprinkle a little enriched uranium on the floor each day. The ants will take it back to their nest, and once enough has accumulated, they'll be gently roasted. Of course, you could end up with 80ft tall mutant flesh eating ants, but it'll be a larf.

maybe they aren't ants at all???

Or they could use it to make nuclear warheads and place a jihad on you all.

I think the west should do a huge season of stuff about the manhattan project, emphasising how many jews were involved, that should put the allahtards off the idea of a hebrew nuke.

I've no personal experience but I know ant powder has worked for some people. Maybe there's a brand that's better than the others. Don't know what it is though sorry.

bananas

No literally bananas!

ok i'll explain......

ants LOVE BANANAS! make sure that the nana is slightly peeled with the phalic like tip exposed (ooh err missus)so that the little nippy buggers can get inside...

Place said nana near to where they are and the WHOLE nest of the fookers will come for the nana, may take a while so be patient....

Once adam and his amigos are snacking on the old nana then swiftly dispatch adam and his compadres with boiling water from the old kettle.

Once adamski has been dispatched or is in trouble,he secretes an enzyme thats informs the rest of said nippy buggers ans sends em into attack mode and they all come a running....

Swiftly dispatch rest of annoying fookers with boiling wasser.

If it dont work the first time then rinse and return,or try an apple but make sure the skin is off first!

ant powder's ok but it just keeps them at bay, setting fire to their nest is best. they seem to moving North at quite a rate, in 1990 , my mate was at Coventry Poly and that was their northern limit, now they seem to be heading for Scotland.

That's perfectly logical Nuts, but while you're fucking about with bananas, the Queen will be smugly knocking out wave upon wave of the bastards and they'll just keep coming and coming. Ergo, abhorrent as it sounds, the solution is to find the bitch and stamp on her womb, directly.I couldn't do it,I think I'd just live side-by-side....unless she was good eating, like a pig or a sheep, then she'd be straight in the pot, natch. :food:

Bananas might work in GB, but here we have the damn Argentine Ants, and they have to be the worst buggers to try and get rid of. They have multiple colonies, and each colony will accept stragglers from other colonies (unlike other ants). Not to mention these bastards tend to have 20 queens per nest, they are about impossible to get rid of... more like you just keep them at bay.
