copper thieves spark series of house fires
The locals at Westhoughton had a bit of a problem today, massive power surges blew and set on fire appliences in 60 properties, united utilities put it down to copper theft!
It could also explain why Jems not on tonight!
Thieving fucks also have a penchant for nicking....of ALL things.....railway signal cable. I remember reading about some lot who between 0230 and 0500 (the only time the line was idle) made off with a mile and a half of it. Of course Network Rail then had to re-lay, and reconnect (rather a lot harder than the disconnecting the thieves did.....involving a bolt cutter) the lot before ANYTHING could move on that line again......a commuter line leading into a large city too!
I think that any large amounts of copper wire should never be left discharged.....it should have a 500KV pulse sent down it at random....that'll not only sort the thieves out, but serve Darwin too.
EDIT: actually they are talking about opening a branch line to belfast international airport.....and making it overhead electrified.....yes....bare electric cables in belfast.....don't see any problem there.

A well known contractor that subbies for united utilities will be in deep shit very very soon.
And even more scary we are talking about GAS!
Thieving bastard "gas fitters" have been pinching the copper fittings from new gas connections,looks like a few jobs have also been left unsafe.
As there aren't enough H&S inspectors to inspect all the possible "dangerous" connections,H&S consultants are being brought in to do the inspections,some of these "consultants" can charge up to £1,000 per day.
This whole issue has so far been brushed under the carpet by united utilites,sub-contractor cannot yet be named as legal notices have been served. All will become common knowledge very soon though.
