There are some shite questions in there, like: what is the currency of the UK... like who gives a rats arse? Everyone takes US dollars, so why learn something else?:p

Perhaps because Sterling is a stronger currency than the USD? Plus, our economy (although poorly managed) wasn't as poorly managed as the US under GWB...
To be fair, you're right, we've got some insanely thick people in the UK too. If you asked the average British person about the structure of US Government, the official language of Belize, how many pennies were there to the pound pre-decimalisation, or similar, then they wouldn't know the answers either.
The standard of general knowledge and education in the "West" seems to have been on a steep decline since the mid 80s... Now if you asked a Chinese or Japanese schoolchild similar questions, I have the feeling that they'd answer more questions correctly! 
Stoopid people ask less and buy more. Not that the trend towards dumbing down is an actual policy of course.

Some not particularly great examples there. Umm... Belize used to be Honduras so is probably British unless they have a native language which has 'officially' taken over. Old pounds.. hmm... 12 in a shilling, 20 (?) to a pound (?) oh i dunno...
I do remember seeing someone in the US being interviewed on TV describing Wales as the capital of England when asked.

Belize used to be British Honduras. As many servicemen from the British Isles served there, it's not unreasonable to assume that British people would remember that the official language is English. Still, I was just coming up with random stuff anyway. But yes, probably more geared towards the older generation

It'd be sad if people invaded Australia (or other places for that matter)...I've got friends at my university who studied abroad in countries such as New Zealand, Australia and Canada---as well as quite a few professors who studied abroad in the US or the UK, and some professors that are from the US and other countries at the university.
Anyway, all countries have ignorant people .
