Exclusive: from Bitchcork Press April 20th 2011.
Yeah - to coincide with the recent NME story about Ian Brown and John Squire fuelling rumours of a possible reunion, the marketing bods at Silvertone Records have been busy already planning what will be the 25th SILVER Anniversary Edition of this seminal album when it comes out in 2014 - only THREE years away now folks!!
The package will be issued in no less than - gasp -TWENTY FIVE formats (!!!!!) - in line with it being TWENTY FIVE MOMENTOUS YEARS since this legendary waxing was originally issued amidst very little fanfare....
Some of the innumerable editions which will be released simultaneously include the following:
** A Box Set of twelve 7" singles - on SILVER VINYL (this includes Fools Gold, natch!) housed in a special commemorative carton with a special John Squire print and numbered in a STRICTLY limited edition of of 25 x 25 copies.
** A SILVER EDITION Vinyl Box Set which features the album on 250gram EXTRA heavyweight - and unbreakable - double vinyl 12" albums. In a regular gatefold sleeve.
** A SILVER EDITION Vinyl Box Set which features the album on 250gram EXTRA heavyweight - and unbreakable - double vinyl 12" albums. This edition will be again strictly limited to 25 x 25 copies in a heavyweight wooden carton with flip lid.
**A SILVER EDITION Vinyl Box Set which features the album on 250gram EXTRA heavyweight - and unbreakable - double vinyl 12" albums. This third edition is called the 'Consolation Edition' meant for those unlucky sods who missed out on the wooden carton version - each gatefold sleeve includes a tube of acrylic paint shrinkwrapped to the cover for any budding John Pollock Squire-Jackson artists amongst you.
**A special cassette edition in a large silver 'phat pack' box with lots of exclusive artwork and postcards - similar to the old Factory Records cassettes that were issued in the mid 1980s.
**An even rarer EIGHT TRACK CARTRIDGE EDITION intended for all of the old-skool analogue audio suckers who are perpetually stuck in a 1970s timewarp (it must be them flares that did it!) Limited to 25 x 25 copies.
**A standard CD edition in a silver jewel case
**A digipak CD edition with extra artwork - in silver
**A DOUBLE DIGIPAK EDITION with a bonus live CD containing all 12 tracks in the same order, albeit recorded at various live venues (not one entire concert, mind)
**A TREBLE DIGIPAK EDITION with the above plus a third disc of remixes (purloined from the 2001 Remixes release)
**A DVD and BluRay edition in 5.1 surround sound. Again in silver!
**A VHS Video version - again aimed at the analogue stuckists who refuse to move with the times. Limited to 25 x 25 copies.
**Perhaps most audaciously revolutionary of all is FOUR COMPLETELY DIFFERENT MIXES OF THE ALBUM which feature each member only in turn.... so edition 1 is just Ian's vocals, edition 2 is John's guitars, edition 3 is Mani's bass, and edition 4 is Reni's drums. No other members or instruments are present on each respective CD. Each CD is available either separately or.....
**....In a direct nod to the famous Zaireeka CD by The Flaming Lips from 1997, ALL FOUR CDS will be housed in a special combined hard back book package with exclusive new artwork....enabling the listener to play each CD featuring one member of the Stone Roses independently of one another or of course all perfectly synchronised together - which then requires there to be four CD players to be deployed for the ultimate quadrophonic sound experience. This 4CD book edition is again limited to just 25 x 25 copies.
**A special invite to take part in a competition that can be entered into either online or via the phone which gives the lucky winner the chance to have each original member of the band: Ian, John, Mani and Reni come to their house to perform the entire album EXACTLY as it is heard in one of the above separate CD versions. You can then cream yourself to the sound of either Mani's snaking basslines and nothing else, or get your rocks off to the tight-assed rhythms of Reni's tub-thumping, or of course you can choose to wallow in the other less talented two members of the band's contributions.....
**An exclusive meal ticket to attend a zoo of your own choice to marvel at the antics of the primates all doing passable impressions of Ian Brown - to the sounds of, yup, you guessed, 'The Funky Gibbon' by The Goodies.
**Special artwork prizes to everybody who submits the funniest written review/recollection of the Stone Roses' infamous Reading 1996 performance. The actual album won't be included with this edition because after all, who would want to remind themselves of how far they had subsequently fallen??
More formats will be announced soon!
Finally.......here for your viewing pleasure is the exclusive new artwork that you can expect on the eagerly awaited Anniversary Editions.... This is the standard 250 gm heavyweight vinyl edition....
