Remastered Beggars Banquet

Has anyone else listened to this? To me, it sounds fantastically good. But perhaps nobody else cares about something from 1968.

Did you ever look out for the Chili Peppers new album, it is quite excellent. Very, very NO and JD influenced. One of the last tracks is so JD it's eerie.

60's was an important decade for music. Dylan, Simon and Garf., The Beatniks, New Kids on the Rob etc. etc.

Yes, I have listened to the RHCP, and it is good, but it has too many tracks; I get discouraged and I wander away...

But to return to the main topic, H, I guess you haven't heard this 1968 classic in any form, remastered or not?

No I haven't. My ears remain open and receptive to any former quality ... quite annoying when a good band is missed i the annals of time. I'm not one to be swayed by any mastering or touching of any polish to old tin mind. Sometimes re-mastering tecchies go over the top ... you can't polish a turd that's what I say.

So a firm recc. from your good self. As a small guide and to give me some concept as to what they sound like would you compare them to The Monkees or Cat Trainer Stevens?

There are times when I just can't tell when you're jesting and when you're serious, H. As between the two artists you mention, I'd go with the Monkees I guess.

If I'd wanted something obscure from that period, I might have picked Blue Cheer or perhaps the Flaming Groovies.

It's difficult in my own mind to.

A friend of mine (who's mannerisms and turn of phrase, incidentally, are most like yours) once declared 'The Money Nuts' his most favourable band of all time. To the extent (remember his reserved nature) sought then out and attended an after-show party where he got to meet and greet each marsupial. And presumably offered them nuts.

Do we have a particular album these Beggars are credited to or should I wander into my local store and request the greatest hits of the Settlers?

And what, specifically, is it that you like?

I'm detecting a link between the soulful LMA and these new people. The Bandits.

The title I mentioned was the album, not the group. This is not an obscure group, H. And the link to Loan Shark is not strong.

Jigsaw Puzzle and Salt of the Earth are standouts.

My bombarding of Patty with questions of the banquet was not meant to become a private affair starring Tina Turnoff.

Thing is, I could pretend I knew what Beggars Cream Cakes was but I didn't. My memory is rubbish ... I blame the cigarettes.

I had to resort to searching on the pipe. Once I'd seen the full gambit I was rolling. Then the old memory cells activated up and I could relax.

I might even buy it now after 2 heart recommendations.

Has it got House of the Rising Sunbeam on the B-side?

If you do buy it, H, make sure you get the newly remastered version. The local newspaper reported that even the original 1968 release was unintentionally slowed down.

How did they manage that? ... did Ronnie Wooden Top fall on the gramophone whilst the reels were recording?

If their was a favourable review in your local newspaper I'll definitely purchase the enhanced widescreen effort. I might pick up some Donovan while I'm at it and his many colours. (Colors).

They did not really explain how it happened, but did say that they (the remasterers) checked the phenomenon by comparing track 1 with the Godard film which showed the recording of the song.

Question is, why were they comparing the track in the first place?

Begging Bowl is a definite must have Stones album. The opening and closing tracks, Sympathy For The Devil and Salty Old Crisp are two of the finest they ever produced in their short 40 odd year career. Check it out.

I'm glad to know I'm not alone in my enthusiasm for this item. Hearing the remastered CD makes me think this was actually their finest moment, which I had previously felt was either the 1971 or 1972 releases.

Used to have the album, which of course was inevitably stolen or misplaced during parties, and I rather liked it. Gonna have to check it out.
