Greetings all-

"24HPP" is finally opening this weekend here in Nashville, TN, and I'm lucky enough to DJ at the premiere party on Sunday night. I've been going through my immense collection of records & CDs, and I've managed to find tons of music, but I won't manage to go through my entire collection before Sunday. (I wish I had just bought the Factory Records boxset years ago, but alas, I foolishly didn't.) I know I'm leaving some important bands out, so I thought I'd enlist the help of your great minds. Here's where you come in:

What's are some of your favourite Hacienda anthems that you would like to hear at a "24HPP" premiere party?

Thanks for all your help, and let the posting begin!!

stone roses - fools gold, somethings burning, sugar spun sister, made of stone

happy mondays - bobs yer uncle (remix), loose fit, hallelujah, madchester rave on ep

beloved - sun rising

primal scream - come together (weatherall), loaded (heller + farley)

808 State - Pacific

A Guy Called Gerald - Voodoo Ray

charlatans - the only one i know, sprotson green, you're not very well

there was a site for 24hr party people that had a forum where people listed their top Madchester and Hacienda tunes.....check to see if its still active and i'm sure you can find tons of great tracks....

Hey, Dub. It's hard to see your record collection from 800 miles away! I suggest you pack all your records up, watch the movie, then select. It'll inspire you enough, for sure. As for some choice "Madchester" moments we've ridden out:

  1. Meeting at the 808 State gig here
  2. Hearing former Hac resident Laurent Garnier play with Jeff Mills at an FComm party at South Beach (the supermodels didn't hurt!)
  3. Hanging with Darren and Graham- hillarious!
  4. New Order "member" Moby trying to be funny at Raven 2!

When you see this film, watch Rob Gretton and Bernard. What a great job they did casting both of them, not to mention Ian!

and 808 state (i like 'one in ten', but everyone seems to pooh-pooh it)

If you're thinking of playing late 80's/early 90's dance stuff you might want to add these to the lists supplied by other posters:

Sterling Void - It's Alright Joe Smooth Inc. - The Promised Land Ten City - That's The Way Love Is M-People - Someday Steve Silk Hurley - Jack Your Body Frankie Knuckles - Tears Raze - Break 4 Love Marshall Jefferson - Open Our Eyes Paul Simpson - Musical Freedom Adeva - Respect Royal House - Can You Party Mr Fingers - Can You Feel It Funky Worm - Hustle (To The Music) Phuture - Acid Tracks Fast Eddie - Acid Thunder Sueno Latino - Sueno Latino Electribe 101 - Talking With Myself A Man Called Adam - Barefoot In The Head Nitro Deluxe - Let's Get Brutal Lil Louis - French Kiss MARRS - Pump Up The Volume Cola Boy - 7 Ways To Love Blue Pearl - Naked In The Rain S'Express - Hey Music Lover Sub Sub - Ain't No Love Baby Ford - Oochy Koochy Baby Ford - Chikki Chikki Ahh Ahh Stakker Humanoid - Humanoid Tricky Disco - Tricky Disco Forgemasters - Track With No Name LFO - LFO Nightmares On Wax - Aftermath Sweet Exorcist - Testone

A lot of these tracks are of a roughly similar tempo (around 120bpm) so quite a few of the tracks may mix together quite easily. However, if you've got a PC and some suitable software you could mix a series of tracks together on your PC (for example, I've mixed Inner City's "Big Fun" from Ten City's "That's The Way Love Is" and then to Sterling Void's "It's Alright" and it works really well), burn the mix on to a CD-R, play it at the party and get on the dance floor.

I like the Durutti Column song on the movie soundtrack, Otis, but I don't guess that would rock the shack enough for your partygoers......

Thanks so much for the insight, Fingers. I've got almost all of those already pulled, but you definitely reminded me of a few that I forgot.

By the way, you don't live in Memphis, do you? If you do, I think there's only one man in Memphis that would know that much about early House music & that would call himself "Fingers." If you're him, I'm a big fan... :)

No, I'm afraid I don't live in Memphis. If I did I'd have made a few mix CDs for you and either posted them to you in time for the party or flown to Nashville to bring them to you personally in return for entry to the party and a floor to sleep on afterwards. I hope the party goes really well and the crowd don't ask you for any CCR or Dolly!
