Turn On, Tune In and Cheer on the Bhoys

Is this the same Alan Hansen who said that Man U would never win anything with kids? I'll probably have it on in the background but I won't sit in front of the TV and watch it all (besides, when I sit in front of the TV and watch a live game it usually ends 0-0).

It may be better than Liverpool v. Everton but that's not saying much these days. However, it won't top last season's Real Madrid v. Barcelona two-legged Champions League semi-final or some of the Arsenal v. Man. U. or Liverpool v. Newcastle Premiership matches for world class football or top notch drama. I doubt it will top Leeds v. Man. U., Leeds v. Chelsea or Leeds v. Arsenal for off-pitch atmosphere and on-pitch aggro (I've never watched the Sunday morning repeats of "Match Of The Day" or "The Premiership" but I bet they have to watch them carefully to make sure the kiddies don't see or hear some of the stuff that happens at those matches). The Old Firm derby's calmed down a lot in recent years, hasn't it?

Having said all that, I hope it's a great game and Celtic win it in dramatic fashion. However, if it isn't a great game and Celtic don't win they'll be another three chances later in the season, won't there?

Shug, the reason why I mentioned a few Premiership fixtures is because the scores that are being settled are very recent scores (especially when it comes to some recent Leeds v. Arsenal and Leeds v. Chelsea games) whilst the Old Firm rivalry goes back to long before all the players were born.

Well, for the first half I had the game on the background and looked up to watch replays of crucial moments and I paid more attention to the second half and I wasn't impressed. Yes it was an exciting, high-scoring match and may have been a great occasion but there was only one world-class player on the field (Henrik Larsson) and he only produced one world-class moment of football (his stunning turn and volley goal).

The defending and goalkeeping were very poor indeed (and especially Celtic's keeper - Rab Douglas is it?) and a lot of the build-up play and some of the goals were poor (simple passes going astray, resorting to long balls into the box, scrappy lucky goals). If Celtic and Rangers joined the Premiership on the form they displayed today Arsenal would thrash them, Man. U. and Liverpool would thrash them if they played at their best and other teams with some world-class attackers and attacking midfielders (Leeds, Newcastle, Chelsea, West Ham and Fulham) would score a few against them and could beat them. If they are going to put up a serious challenge in Europe they are going to have to become more like Arsenal and treat every game as if it was part of a two-legged cup tie.

I especially enjoyed the comedy performance of the Celtic keeper

a very impressive game.....not so sure about celtics keeper...however i was very impressed with chris sutton...his link up and hold up play was intelligent and precise...in my mind he would be a very good partner for owen at international level..

Didn't Celtic put four past them in the summer, on their home turf?

And do Pompey - running away with the first - down at Fratton Park.

And put seven past QPR - doing reasonably well in the second - at Loftus Road.

And gain a 1-1 draw with the Champions at Highbury with their kids and also rans in a game they should've killed off well before the Arse grabbed their equaliser?

Well said Jarvo! And while yes Celtic did go out to Basel Brush we did manage to beat them 3-1 at home. As I recall Liverpool who would apparently "thrash" us only managed a 1-1 draw at Anfield a couple of weeks back. Interesting to see if they'll repeat Celtic's scoreline against Valencia last season. (1-0 at Parkhead 1-1 agg. oot on penalties!)

Making comparisons between results against the same opposition is never a good yardstick. If we consistently progress in Europe, which I think we will, then we are on the right track regardless of individual results. Make no mistake Basel are not a good side and were hugely flattered by the 1-1 scoreline. The 6 goals Valencia put past them would not have flattered us. That said, we failed to beat them and it could cost us.

I'm more shocked at the thought of a W*tford crowd singing anything at all to be honest! ;)

That must've been a confusing fixture. Did either set of fans barrack the other for - allegedly - being 'gay' ;)

So they're well known for being quiet are they? I put it down to the "bring a friend" policy that they've got going on there at the minute...I just thought there was a load of newbies in that didn't know the words.

We always get the gayboy chants, and Saturday was no different....maybe one day someone will come up with an original one!

Sorry, but they always get it big time from us. And, I assumed from a lot of other clubs. Old associations with Elton John and all that. They're an easy target.

My only experience of Gunwharf (apart from Saturday shopping with the Mrs) was cut short after the "efficiency" of the Security Dept had me down as some sort of hooligan just because I was wearing a football shirt. Maybe they were just touchy because Celtic had completely taken over the place the previous afternoon before their Pompey friendly.
