Anyone seen it ? Just got back, and can tell you it's excellent. Very faithful to the book, if anyone's read that.

I'm stuck in work, unfortunately. Needs must and all that.
Thought Manhunter was quite true to the book as well? But then I've not seen the former / read the latter in 10+ years. Brian Cox played an excellent Lektor (sic) in my opinion.
Black Sunday, the film of his first book was due to be shown on the Beeb last Sunday night but was pulled at the last minute - guess as a result of recent atrocities in the US. Shame, cos I've never seen it.

I've seen Manhunter, the first movie done with the novel in 1986...
I don't remember all the story, but in that movie (which was rented a lot when Silence of the Lambs was out... I worked then in a video club), Hannibal Lecter has a very SMALL part, I wonder if it's the same in that movie.
Lecter has a very big part to play in Red Dragon - without giving away much of the screenplay for those who intend to see it, the film starts with scenes (not directly in the book) of how Graham caught Lecter, and it is superbly done. I haven't seen Hannibal yet (having been desperately disappointing with the ridiculous end to the book), but they've done a hell of a good job in bringing Red Dragon to life. Manhunter was good, but IMHO this is better still.

i didn't think hannibal was as bad as the critics made it out to be (and i quite enjoyed the book's ending, even though it was a bit weird).
but i agree with you about red dragon. top film! (see the 'movies for the weekend' thread for my flattering opinion of RD)
Hannibal effectively killed any interest I might have had in seeing Red Dragon. It had a lot to live up to (Silence of the Lambs, very much a classic) and it really failed to deliver. Nevermind Ray Liotta got what he deserved (Anthony Hopkins, er, 'picking' his brain) as he is a terrible actor. Hannibal wasn't as cerebral as Silence, and I think it suffers by comparison. I might see Red Dragon when it comes out on video or goes to the local cheapo theater, though, just for the hell of it.

have black sunday on video somewhere, never watched it though & never read the book, will have to get round to it. red dragon was a superb novel & luckily i read sotl before seeing the film. having read hannibal do not intend to watch it but will give red dragon a spin.
