Has there been one good Monday Night Football game this year? They've all been blowouts. Too bad.

Now if you were to talk about real football rather than this poncey padded-up egg-chasing variety favoured by Septics.....you'd get a few replies.

hmm, well it is pretty poncey, but compared to association football would argue that the players are a lot harder, no poncey rolling around on the floor when they take a slight knock...

even with pads and a helmut, i think id be sore after having about 3 or 4 300lbs lineman fall on me. oh yea and while im in the pile, having some guy punch me in the coin purse, another gouge me in the eye, and a nice pair of cleats over my hand.......football anyone?

Yes, the games have been very lopsided. I do like having Madden and Micheals in the booth. Did you catch the gold jackets last night? Nice retro look.

Now, lets talk about American football v. soccer:

You have to actually be HURT (broken limb, severed spine etc.) to be carried off on a stretcher.

................and.....

a player can't just hop off of said stretcher half way to the sideline to re-enter the game.

While it is evident that soccer players must be well conditioned, I would put a defensive back or wide reciever up against a soccer player any day concerning strength and stamina.

I also think it would be a laugh riot to suit up a soccer player in pads and send him across the middle on a pass pattern only be LIT UP by a highly pissed (not drunk) off free safety. Remember, soccer player must also make the catch while being blown up by said free safety.

Just a few thoughts.

I don't really think this post warrants a "soccer" versus an "American football" stance. I have received heat from several Americans for liking "football" that isn't American. Both games should be appreciated because they are games of incredible skill and precision, which not all of us can play. That's why they are interesting in the first place.

They don't seem to have been that close this year, that's for sure, though I don't watch much of them. About the closet game was the one accompanied by the biggest brouhaha: San Francisco at Seattle, with the Sharpie autograph session by Mr. Owens. Think the final on that one was 28-21.

Ronnie Lott was the reason for many cases of "alligator arms". In the '70's, Dallas had a safety named Cliff Harris. He put the "Doom" in "Doomsday Defense". Today we've got Darren Woodson. Did you see the hit he got fined $75,000.00 for? Next thing you know, the NFL will start making receivers wear skirts.

I would agree with your statement. However, there seems to be a distinct lack of appreciation for the "American" brand of football by our European cousins.

Yeah I saw that hit. I'm not really sure what was wrong with it. We see those kinds of hits a number of times throughout the year. The reason he got fined was because of what happenned to the wide-out he hit. If the WR gets up, there is no fine.

I think you're right. But, what does that say about what db's will feel comfortable doing in the future? How is a player supposed to change alomst 20 years of coaching and instinct?
