Well, new to me anyway. A 94 Saturn SL. I don't know if that's good or what, but it looks pretty good, and it sure beats the hell out of my 1986 Celebrity-Eurosport.

I remember the joy I felt when I traded in my Buick Skylark (which I affectionaly nicknamed the "Focke-Wulf 190" after a particularly ugly German fighter plane in WWII) with rust covering most of the gray for a nice dark red Buick Celebrity from 1985....until I found out it had just as many problems as the Skylark. I can say this much:at least the brakes are good!

The 109 wasn't necessarily a gas guzzler, it just had a relatively small fuel capacity. It's short loiter capability plus the greatness of Fighter Command led to the winning of the Battle of Britain

I think you'd be hard pressed to get the average American to identify any of the following: Skoda, SEAT, Citroen, Peugeot, Renault, Alfa Romeo, FIAT, Vauxhall, TVR, etc etc etc. I know because I follow racing and am a novice student of the automotive industry and it's history.

Yep, when the guy took over as head of the army, that sealed Germany's fate. He built good roads though :D

The German fighter planes always took my fancy when I was a young kid studying history. They just looked cooler than anything we had and (bar the Spitfire) antyhing the Brits could mount. the P-51 Mustang just looks ugly by comparison to a ME-109 or Spitfire.

I think the P-51D ( full bubble canopy) was the most handsome of all Allied fighters.

As for the Axis, the Me 262 was the epitome of pre-computer cutting edge technology. Jet engines, swept wing fuselage, multiple cannon weaponry. And to think (shudder), it could have been operational in 1942. Lord have mercy............

The 262 was definitely a cool-looking plane, it was kind of a 109 body style with two big engines strapped to the wings. I used to have a model airplane of it, never got around to painting it and have lost it since (the plane, not my mind)

I remember the day I traded in my 1980 Honda Prelude for a 2001 VW Jetta 2 years ago.

I was actually hoping to get a new Jetta, but seeing as how I'm still going to be a poor ass white boy college student for the next several years, it didn't seem like such a good idea.

Biznotic, I have been taking public transportation for the last 4 months. Now, I'm not saying I approve of the local yuppies around me who drive their 5000 lb wheelchairs around, taking up two lanes. But, public transportation in my area is rather impractical for me, and for many people. If you don't live and work in the in the downtown area, then the city buses are pretty much useless. I live downtown and work about 20-30 minutes away (10-15 minutes on the highway. When I took the bus, I had to get up at 6 am so that I could get to work by 8:30. No one from my work lives near me, so carpooling was out of the question. As of today, the bus route I had been taking has been cancelled, because of lack of riders. I'm certainly not the type who plans on living in a suburban enclave 20 miles away from any urban area, but unfortunately that's the way many Americans are, and bus taking isn't really an option. Most Europeans live in cities, while Americans are much more spread out. If you live in a low populated area outside of major cities, like many Americans do, what are you suppose to do? Mass transit doesn't work in areas with low population density.

Like everything else in America (houses, roads, supermarkets, food portions...people) they have grown to gigantic proportions in order to take up the available space. The population density of the US could probably be tripled if everything was reduced to Euro-weenie sizes.

I love it - a real hoot to drive - gocart handling.

I believe this car is now even becoming popular in the USA. Might be the first small car to make it the US - that said it is enormous compared to the microscopic original Mini.

We've got quite a few MINIs around here, zipping in and out of traffic and driving under pick up trucks and semis. ;)
They're just adorable and I'd love to have one, but they're too small for me.

As for the criticism about the lack of public transportation...YOU try finding a bus from Riverside to north Dayton or Miamisburg and not have to spend 2 hrs in transit in the best conditions. It's too spread out for public transportation to be feasible for most people. It's not unusual for people in this area to work in Columbus, Springfield, Cincinnati because we have to go where the work is. If ya don't like the public transportation here, go live in Europe or England.
