Why does American beer suck???

A good ole pint of Guiness will do me fine.

They used to sell RootBeer in the UK anyone remember that? not actually real bear just some bizzare medicine tasting liquid.

I seem to recall it was banned over here or something, or am i talking total bollox!?? ;)

I remember Root Beer in Mcdonalds - it tasted like germeline smells. You can still get it I got some in Tescos the other day - it's just as bad now as it was then.

if anyone thinks american beer is bad, you've never tasted israeli beer. maccabi and goldstar are the two big brands (we always drank goldstar because living next to the ha'poel tel aviv football ground, drinking a beer with the same name as their big rivals just didn't seem right) and you finally get used to them after a few painful weeks. you never, EVER get used to israeli wine, however.

My and my housemate once brewed our own beer. I now beleive i am sterile.

I know nothing about beer, it all tastes the same to me. But I do know (a) it tastes better chilled, sorry if thats unpatriotic of me, and (b) the only beer I've ever tasted that was actually downright nasty was Canadian.

More important question. Do American women suck ? :p

Yes. Any American beer, no matter how foul or pissy it might taste if it is warm, tastes nice and crisp when it is cold:

Same here. It's just not my habit to go out of my way to drink any beer warm. Maybe that's just an 'American' thing.

I'm guessing that Euro-beers are served at room temp simply because they can be, i.e. they are tasty that way.

Cincy will rise again...if you haven't tried it yet, just try Moerlein O.T.R. ...It's quite the tasty brew...

Besides, we have the Hofbrauhaus in Newport...Dunkel and House Lager served straight from the bright tanks... so fresh, it's practically still wort (but a very strong wort)!!!

I tried Fin Du Monde, I think it's Canadian. Anyway I'm a sucker for trying out any new beer. Last week I tried a banana bier.. it was ok.

The house dunkel at Hofbrauhaus is flavored with banana and clove...I've tried it in bottles (fairly decent), but have yet to try it fresh from the store (i.e. out of the tanks)

You should clarify better Jeff:

AMERICAN BEERS ARE EXCELLENT, its AMERICAN PILSNERS that suck.

My favorite beer is pale ale, and Bass is my favorite that you can find about anywhere, but there are a few pale ales made by microbrew that are better than Bass (though Bass has an amazing consistency, no matter where you drink it and when its always the same).

And for the record ITS NOT SO MUCH THE WATER in American Pilsners, its the lack of hops that they use... and the clearer the beer, the more the rice (like molson, heiniken, coors light, etc.)

But American pilsners have their place, you can't drink an English Ale on a really hot summer day to quench yer thirst.

bud, miller, and coor's i understand your point. however american beer does not stop here.

first off your from texas. have you ever tried shiner bock, from shiner texas. they have a sampler 6 pack which has 6 kinds. sam adams is also very good. we have 3 micro breweries near my house. what about rogue?

Well if you like stouts, no wonder you don't like pilsners. Its like complaining that a hot dog simply isn't as good as a hamburger (and thinking they are the same thing).

One that is EXCELLENT, and I only fell on it by accident in a store (just one bottle loose, and the store didn't sell loose bottles), the store never sold it before and never after... snuck it ina six pack... wish I could have more:

Have to agree with Edel here. Some of the best beer I have ever tasted was made in tiny microbreweries in California. Tended to get better the further north you travelled, in my experience. Best one was on a terrace at a restaurant overlooking a river in the Napa Valley. Bliss.

I also love the way that American waitresses look at you like you're Oliver Reed if you order more than one or two.

you needn't drink the swill, texani. there're plenty of good imports here in the US of A. still, there are some GRRREAT american microbrews, as mentioned above. one of note is the wynkoop in denver. chocolate-flavoured beer! tastes excellent, actually. they have great beer soup, as well. and the owner (who's also mayor of denver) is named john hickenlooper. my family used to eat at the wynkoop all the time when we lived back in the mile high city.
