the doors on tour?

they did a reunion show on VH1 and it was pretty cool, the band was in good form. some dud guest vocalists though--i mean scott stapp, what a chump. and the guitarist is probably only 40 but he looks about 65(a good case *not* to do drugs.)

hmmm. but i wonder as a musician, why do bands do these reunion tours? why not write new songs and get new ideas out there--it all ends up being pretty stale--rehashing the past, or something. the doors are/were great, but, uh, yeh. i can't really put words to what i'm thinking. :sleepy:

Ian Astbury was widely touted to be Morrison on the film "The Doors". In the end he refused to cut his then long mane so they went for Val Kilmer instead (well that was the official explanation at the time ).

"The guitarrist is 40"? So when they started the band he was 5,6 years old?

He is actually in his middle 50s and a BRILLIANT player too.:D

Yeah, their opening act: The Hinges (get it, "The Doors" supported by "The Hinges"!.......okay, it's not that funny, but it amused a girl I liked years ago, so I've used it ever since)

I thought the idea of the Doors reforming was a bad idea, but then I saw the VH1 "Storytellers" and realized what a really bad idea it was. Granted, the guys are great musicians, but it's a bit sad (I almost lost respect for John Densmore, who wrote quite possibly the most honest rock autobiography).

And with Ian Astbury of the Cult?....don't be surprised if their encore is "She Sells Sanctuary"

Good point. Keith Richards looks like the angel of Death (to me, at least) and he's in his late 50s/early 60s. There's something to be said for saying "no" to drugs (or at least saying "maybe now, but I don't want to look like Keith Richards. I'll try and quit before I hit 40")

Yeah shame about John Densmore going deaf - I met him at a book signing for his autobiography - and he seemed a decent bloke.

Not sure about the Doors reforming - their two post Morrison albums were pretty lame. Also I cannot help thinking about the reformed Velvet Underground who I saw at Wembley - a bit of a dissapointment.

I didn't know he went deaf! Man, he's a great drummer. Forget that whole "almost losing respect" part of my initial post. He did the VH1 thing for love of the music.

Is it just me, or does Ray manzarek seem like the ultimate fake? He's so "Jim was all about hippie-dom" when anyone with a third-grade education can hear how down on "peace, love, and flowers" Jim really was on stuff like The End. I've never liked the guy, and I refused to read his autobigraphy.

Yeah always thought Manzarek was a bit of a Pseudo. He always had the most to say of all the Doors - but said the least - if you know what I mean.

About 20 years ago I made the mistake of buying an LP of his called Carmina Burana based on the Carl Orff classical composition - Man what a crock !

Also was it him on in full gold face paint on the front cover of an LP called something like "The Golden Scarab" ?

i do not like the cult(maybee never just got into them), i loved the police and stewart copeland is a great drummer, i love the doors but i dont know they will have to put out some really really really good songs for me to accept this why call it the doors?

Ray M. was on a classic-rock tlak show on the radio plugging his book a while back, and I was just amazed at the BS pouring from his mouth. I think he's done the most to ride the coat tails of his former fame all the way to the bank. It'd be the equivalent of Paul McCartney saying John Lennon wanted him to have sole credit on all the Beatles' songs.....oh wait, he did want to reverse writing credits (from "Lennon/McCartney" to "McCartney/?" or something like that)

saw them on leno last night. they played light my fire. astbury did a passable job tho it appeared he was trying too hard to look like JM with the leather pants and all. he wore sunglasses, mebbe to try to freak out stoners who might think JM was still alive.

yeah, I turned it there for about two seconds, realized civilization was at an end, and ran understairs to my highly fortified bunker, stockpiled with food and plenty of German generals with maps of Berlin for some reason

Yeah, The Cult guy was trying too hard. And I guarentee no new music will emerge from this incarnation (you can quote me on that).
