Are the Stone Roses 1 and half good albums more important than Oasis's 2 and half good albums?
(Personally I never understood what the fuss was about as far as Oasis were concerned. The first two albums were good, but not something I listen to very often.)
No, no, NO.
I only liked Fool's Gold and I don't know much else about them. If it was between Stone Roses and Oasis, Oasis would get my vote. But how can I vote between Oasis and 'vox????? I love them both!!!!!

Hmmmm, interesting. I've always thought The Stone Roses were vastly overhyped on the strength of a good first album and the music press's desire to find a new "next best thing" back in 1987.
Oasis did two superb albums then fell victim to the music press,tabloid hype and their own egos. Mind you, they may now have actually found their feet, as Heathen Chemistry is their most consistent record since Morning Glory.
Oasis get my vote - never an Ultravox fan besides Vienna.
Definitely Maybe vs The Stone Roses is how the poll should have been done
I have fond memories of both, The StonE Roses came out when I was 14, and it was at the start of the Madchester explosion, which I was lucky enough to have been there when it started (cheers John) it took me a few listens to get into the Roses, but I have to say this is THE best debut album of all time....probably Track after track is just superb, I really can't think of a weakness on the album.
Definitely Maybe on the other hand came at the right time, there was fuck all going on music wise over here, and I mean NOTHING! they came from nowhere and were a breath of fresh air, this is also one of the greatest debuts of all time, and as a 19 year old, most of the stuff they put out in this period was met with joy, and all the lads in the pub singing along to every word.
I have to put the Roses just in front, even though they only put out the two albums, don't forget there were some great tracks on Second Coming as well. Oasis imploded and they (Liam) got on everyone's tits when they thought they had cracked America.....fair play now though, the last album was Oasis getting back to what they are best at.....attitude and anthems.

interesting - i would say the same for oasis being hyped, from the 1st single on they were all over the music press proclaiming them the best thing ever.
far too much "homaging" other bands on their songs if you ask me from the beatles to gary g****r - & they then proclaim themselves the only decent band around. pur-lease.
ultravox did a brilliant video for one of their songs - you'll know the one if you've seen it.
the roses gig at the bierkellar in bristol was one of the best i have been to - def in my top 10 gigs of all time.
surely the roses are the only ones with new order connection too - hooky produced elephant stone after all

The best gig of my life was the Roses at Glasgow Green in 1990 (their last for four years.) The date? Saturday June 9th. New Order at Finsbury Park last year? June 9th again. Spooky huh?
Oasis are STUDENT UNION music and student rugby team pissed up anthems. Stone Roses every time.
The Stone Roses were something special, Oasis have always been merely workmanlike, a better-than-average Britpop band.
Definitely Maybe and What's The Story are good recordings, very honest. But it can't be compared to The Garage Flower album - the very best Stone Roses disc - nor to The Stone Roses album. "The Garage Flower" is a great rock'n'roll disc, captured from a borning rough crew who still didn't knew which way to lead thru. Who was the man behind it? Martin Hannett, my friends. I keep on saying: he was the man behind all Manchester's good stuff in the 80's. Sorry, but I can't see what relationship is supposed to stand between both of them (Oasis and SRoses) and Ultravox?

Hell, I might as well vote for Ultravox, though only the John Foxx era; I rather like stuff like Slow Motion and Hiroshima Mon Amour.
OASIS but i do like the STONE ROSES too.Just thought that OASIS caused more of a stir and produced more excellent early songs.

had to go with the stone roses. ok, 'second coming' was hardly that, but their first album was just so good. flo has a point, oasis are (or were) good, but in a way they were very 'student union', that's for sure. i never got to see the stone roses live, but i did see john squire play with...oasis! at knebworth, back in 1996.
...i think i'm going to dig out my old 'sally cinnamon' vinyl and give it a listen. it's been a long time.
