now del naja is being quizzed

in a raid in bristol on tuesday night a pc was taken & robert del naja (aka 3d) is being quized.

he says that he has never viewed child pornography in his life & is co-operating fully with the police & fully expects justice to be done.

its just not safe being a child pornographer in the uk. gary glitter, pete townshend, now this.

only paul gadd was convicted, townsend not yet been tried & don't think that del naja has even been arrested as yet

This child pornography raids are starting to look positively disgusting. Del Naja or Townsend may or may not have visited said pages but even if they are innocent the stain will remain. Suspect for ever. Even if they had visited those pages theirs is a nasty, reprochable behaviour that fills me with disgust and contempt but we cannot equate them to child molesters. The police is squandering its resources chasing the customers, however dodgy, and not the real culprits, those who set up the pornographic sites.

The way the police is acting starts to resemble that of a totalitarian police.

that was the first thing i thought. a very easy way to discredit a high-profile, anti-war figure. hasn't blair mentioned him and damon albarn recently? seem to remember hearing he had?

apparantly he has to go back this week to see the police, on the massive attack site someone has posted that it will be cleared up then.

a rumour he was targeted by mistake. mud sticks though...

I don't think it's got anything to do with that, Townsend is not exactly a political figure these days, I think it's all to do with the police's traditional attitude of going through the motions, aiming for the easiest of targets instead of the highest rungs of command be it drugs be it child pornography be it organised crime.

Its pretty shocking. I desperately hope he turns out to be innocent.

I bought the Special Cases single just before this came out, and really liked it, but once this news broke I found I wasn't so sure about buying the album. After all you don't want to think the money you spend ends up going to support sites like the one Townsend is supposed to have visited?

It really is difficult to believe this accusation, but who the heck knows?

If he does turn out to be innocent he should damn well sue somebody (and I can go buy the lp). If not, thats some excellent music somewhat tarnished. Still, Morrisey is a racist and Larkin a weird perve, but one can still appreciate their art, I suppose.

(As for Townesend, even if his explanation is true, at the very least he should be sentenced to be given a good slap and have someone bang his head against the wall repeatedly while shouting 'what the f*** did you think you were doing you idiot! Is there anybody at home in there?' Maybe even a prison sentence would still be appropriate, though I think not the public disgrace that would normally go with such a conviction. Simply being very stupid, if that is all he's guilty of, shouldn't merit that kind of oppobrium)
