Check this out for a quite incredible message posted in a Ladytron Forum recently. I read this & felt every day of my age.....

i know this may sound stupid but...

my new fav band scarling. just released a 7" called "band-aid covers the bullet hole." i really like them a lot, but... how the hell do i play a 7"?!?!?!? i ordered a copy of it, i just don't know what i'm doing. this is the first non-cd album or single i've owned since.... 1995. (i had tapes before that.)

it's... "red vinyl," so i can play it on a record player correct? sorry to sound stupid, i just don't know what i'm doing... (yeah i'm a stupid 18 year old, new to the "indie" and "electro" scenes.) my friend has turntables, i figure that'll work, but no one i know knows about 7"'s. if someone could help me out it would be much appreciated. if it's a record player where could i get a cheap one that's worth it? thrift store?

Most people should know what 7" and 12"'s are if not simply because of Dj's and clubs/raves.

They must be WELL out of the loop! :lol:

Today's youth? Don't know they're born. I can remember when practically all that was available was vinyl & cassettes were a bit posh. Can also remember NEW 7" releases for less than IR£2 (€2.54 for any young folk!).

I even recall paying 99p for a new 7" ('I Want Candy' - Bow Wow Wow) around 1982. Extra cheap because there was nothing on the b-side.

Just think: how many thousands of today's music buying public don't know what a b-side is?

When I first started taping music in the 70's, I'd put my little portable tape-recorder with the recording mic against the speaker of the radio. To stuff this up, the Top 20 dj's always made sure to talk over the start and end of all tracks. The first song I ever taped in this way was Racey's "Some girls will". :lol: :lol:

I did this too! & everyone in the room had to be really quiet

course the recording level wasn't set so every song on the tape was at a different volume....
