Yes, starting of today (well, yesterday now), you can turn right on a red light in the province of Québec!

We were the only place (except NYC) where you weren't allowed, now we are, with the exception of the island of Montréal, where you can't do it, at least for the next 18 months.

Well.. I guess somebody finally realized we'll save money by doing this instead of building the access ways we have at many places... and people from the rest of the continent will not cause commotions ;)

Don't forget that in the UK certain crazy drivers will risk everything to jump the lights.

They're sometimes referred to as 'amber gamblers' or 'hasty decision makers'.

Never done it myself, although I have been busted for doing a ton fifty in a thirty zone.

As I don't drive, I'm not sure if this is allowed in the UK, but I thought it wasn't, as its one of the things that's always irked the heck out of me in the US and have never noticed here - that even when the lights are in your favour (as a pedestrian) the damn motorists can STILL try and kill you as long as they are turning as they do so. Seems a completely stupid law to me.

those people are just bad drivers!

you do have to stop first...but if it's clear...you are allowed to make a right hand turn at a red light....unless it's a one way street going the opposite direction...or there is a sign posted...

I have been to Quebec a number of times and I always see drivers making right turns on a red light...while ingnoring the pedestrians trying to cross the street.
