Ruud van Nistelrooy has thanked the Everton fans who stayed behind to applaud United lifting the Premiership trophy at Goodison Park on Sunday.

Reports suggest an astonishing 10,000 Everton fans stayed behind after the final whistle to see the presentation, and United's deadly Dutch forward Ruud van Nistelrooy was astounded at the gesture.

"I think they are great fans," he said of the Evertonians. "The way they supported their team was amazing and they also showed big heart and class to applaud us for winning the championship.

"That is the way football should be and I thank the fans for that," Ruud added.

Too right mate! My local was packed with 'pool fans watching their side cement their UEFA cup place. When the news from Goodison came up on screen that Campbell had scored, they all started cheering. Tried to make 2 points to them: 1) Like it actually mattered! 2) Why were they cheering their rivals?

When their game was over, all except about 2 (and every Arsenal fan, strangely ;) )disappeared faster than their Champions League ambitions, despite the offer to join us in a few glasses of bubbly.

Felt sorry for David Moyes. Seems a genuine bloke & can see him doing very well for you.
