LEVEL 42

Quick story: I met one of my best mates in Freshers Week at University when I was at this party and Brotherhood (which had only just come out) was being played. Asked whose tape it was and this lad said, "Mine," then added, gleefully, "Second best band in the world."
I asked who the best band was?
He replied, "Level 42."
I didn't speak to him for the rest of my time in Uni, and we only really became mates through mutual friends in London about five years after that initial meeting.
True story that.
Oh, in case it's not obvious, I think Level 42 are sh*te.
Level Headed 42 Year Olds crystallise the meaning of the word 'cheese' but boy can that bass player twat them strings.

Huntsman, I fear that this time I must agree with you...
Mark King is the biggest twat that ever walked the earth. Must have something to do with living on the Isle Of Wight (they all think they're sooo eccentric).
My cousin is an accountant (insert your own jokes) and King is one of his clients. Despite having done nothing for fifteen-odd years, he swaggers around the office as if he's owed a living, and once actually used the phrase "Do you know who I am?"
That gimp on the keyboards always looked like he needed a good kicking, too.

H, if Mark Slap-King still requires the services of an accountant...
Okay I'll re-phrase:
Bluey, exactly what is the financial position of Kingy? - i.e. precisely how much did he earn (to the nearest pound) in the financial year 2002-2003?
Thank you.

I like your style Bluey :D
I love running in the family and the bass playing is indeed genius but the rest of the songs are a bit too fondant fancy for my liking.
The best thing about Level 42 was Alan Partridge mimicking the bass player in "I'm Alan Partrdige" (played by Steve Coogan for those outside these fair isles;) )
Only ever heard Something About You on the radio, didn't think it was total rubbish, but it didn't make me run out and buy the album, or even the single. Can't recall much about them today, to be honest.
I was asking because I saw somewhere that the group somewhat reformed (actually more of a Mark King solo project wearing the Level 42 label).
Although I'm ashamed to admit, I think the four songs I've mentionned at the beginning of this thread are well-crafted tunes -- YES THEY *ARE* CHEESY -- but for some reason I can't get their melodies out of my head, and that's an achievement in itself I guess, if you created that.
Beside these, all I heard from them was shite!
Hmm... speaking like a Brit now!
