Anybody like The Glove?

Being a Cure fanatic, this one-off side project is essential listening in my opinion. Like An Animal and Punish Me With Kisses are good singles, but my fave tracks are A Blues in Drag, This Green City, Relax, and--perhaps one of the most romantic songs ever made-- my #1 favorite by them, Mouth to Mouth. Thoughts?

I had forgotten about that .. Blue Sunshine isn't it ? I've got it amongst my Cure collection somewhere, haven't heard it for yeeeeeeeeeeeeeears. Thanks for reminding me, I'll dig it out tonight (I'm at work now) and give it another listen.

I love The Glove, The Cure and The Banshees created a great sound together and "Like An Animal" still makes me shudder with pleasure.

Ah! one of my favorite albums. Love the song "punish me with kisses"

I remember long ago before I got the album, someone told me Siouxsie was the woman singing. Turns out it wasn't.

My memory... Wasn't that Fat Bob and the Banshees' Steve Severin? er... or the Banshees' Budgie?

yeah the severin guy.

Anyone know who that femal singer was? has she done anything else besides the glove?

it's Jeanette Landray, quote: ""Jeanette was a dancer at the time and became involved in the album by keeping on at Steve & Robert. In an interview at the time Jeanette said,

"As soon as I found out that Steve & Robert were doing an album I kept on at them to let me do something on it. They auditioned a lot of people for it but I ended up being the Lucky one"

and she went on to say "It was great doing it. Really good, but a bit strange. They recorded it at night, so I was doing that at night and rehearsing for a dance during the day. I felt really cut off from everything"

Jeanette wrote one song for the album but Steve & Robert rejected this. She had previously worked on Top Of The Pops, The Video Entertainers and a Pink Floyd Video. ""

don't know what she's doing now ...

Listening to This Green City right now and it still sounds great.

I LOVE this album!

I discovered it belatedly when I was 16 and spent all summer tripping out to the sound of it with all my mates.

It's certainly one of the best things Smithy boy has ever been involved with outside of the early Cure stuff. Obviously their one attempt at trying to do a psychedelic Sgt Pepper-type project and it works surprisingly well. Still sounds great to this day.

Wasn't this released during that crazy period when the Banshees, the Cure and everybody else involved with both bands had about 200 side projects between them all at the same time? Both parties were just on huge almighty benders weren't they? No wonder the poor guy lost it big time soon afterwards!

Vintage stuff indeed.

Faves: Like An Animal, Blues in Drag, Perfect Murder, Punish Me W/Kisses, Green City, Orgy, Mouth to Mouth.

I remember one time at my old agency i use to work at, I shared an large office with six other designers. We used to take turns putting on a CD while we worked. Everyone else were into the limp bizkits and Metallica. or dave matthews. So the one time i put in a CD, I put in Blue Sunshine. Everyone in the room, acted as though as they were being tortured. Then my creative director comes in, and the first thing he says is, What is this shit. Orgy was playing at that moment. Anyways, since that moment, I never really put any of my stuff in the CD. Just put my headphones on and just worked at my desk. Couldn't stand the place, so I eventually left.

Before you left, you could have had the last laugh and exacted your sweet revenge.....

Such as bring a few of your more able-bodied mates in with you, gag them all and then tie them up to their chairs and then subject them to the whole album again at full volume on a six cycle repeat, followed by other Robert Smith-produced delights like the albums The Top, Pornography, Carnage Visors, etc, or Siouxsie's 20 minute long The Lords Prayer - all played in their entirety. That should have sorted the bastards out!

Ah, Carnage Visors....one of the best songs to do work to. Making them listen to Pornography all the time will certainly do a number on their psyches--just ask my roommate! If you really want to torture them, put in Wild Mood Swings, but just remember to leave the room after the first track or else you'll be doubled over with nausea for hours!

Mouth To Mouth must be a b-side or a bonus CD track cause it sure isn't on the vinyl copy of Blue Sunshine.

Still play the album once or twice a year, fave song is This Green City.

Yeah, Mouth to Mouth is one of (I think) 3 tracks only on the CD. Trust me, though, that song is worth downloading at the very least if you only have the vinyl version.

i first heard it on cassette years ago, but over the past 5 years, ive found 3 copies on cd. i gave one to my friend victor, lost one, and still have one. i never liked the female vocals of jeanette landry and always skipped to perfect murder and mr. alpahbet says, but wwhen i started dating lindsey almost 3 years ago, she played it in its entirety and i actually loved it. maybe because lindsey sang along to all the songs, but thats when i started to appreciate the whole album.

i worked at a record store and played cure and new order whenever possible, but one co-worker was into rap, one reggae, one indie rock, and one bands like tool. the only album they appreciated was pornography and anything by joy division because it was not "pussy new wave" like the other music i played at work.
