Cure Trilogy DVD reviews?

Has anyone got the Cure Trilogy DVD that came out yesterday/today? I ordered a copy of it but won't be able to get my hands on it until the weekend. I've read a number of reviews online and seen a few sample clips (specifically at the Chain of Flowers website), but I was wondering what any of you who are fortunate to have it already think of it. yes, i can't wait for 5 days to see for myself.....yes, i am pathetic.

It will be released here next monday, I think. But what exactly is it?

It's a live show from last November in Berlin where the band played all the songs from the Pornography, Disintegration, and Bloodflowers albums in a row.

lindsey and i each picked up a copy today in chicago @ tower records. i only watched until fascination street and then went to sleep before i went to work. its fantastic. my favorite song from it so far is "cold" from Porno. i plan on watching the rest tomorow. definetly a great dvd so far :)

Just watched the Porno and Disintegration sets. Now watching the Blood set. A few quick impressions...

I'm at a loss for words...

This is the best concert film I have ever seen in my LIFE!!(well, not quite sure if it beats DM: Devotional)

The picture quality is disturbingly clear!! And the sound quality is insanely ridiculously fantasitc!!! Seeing and hearing Same Deep Water as You, The Figurehead, One Hundred Years, Last Dance LIVE, is nothing short of spellbounding!!!!!!! The Bobster looks like he's having a blast playing with his bandmates. Simon kinda reminds me of The Edge with his body style of guitar playing. Jason kicks mucho ass on the drums. The keyboardist, say to say, looks like he just wants to go home...but is doing a fine job. The arena is huge and the fans are into it! Lots of cheers and whistles!

My home theater...

I have a 65" Toshiba Widescreen(non-HD) RPTV and a 5.1DD speaker setup(Yamaha reciever) with shelf speakers hanging on the ceiling corners of my living room. I almost always take advantage of it watching action movies, and turning up the volume loud really shakes the house!

But you know what? As good as this concert film sounds on my 5 speaker set up, I WAS NOT prepared for how great it sounds...WITH HEADPHONES!! Yes, you heard me! Muting my speakers and listening to this concert via my Sony MDR-7506 Professional Grade headphones is *THE* definition of breathtaking! Especially when I put my receiver on "Concert Hall"....wow...just...WOW!! The music comes across VERY RICH AND CLEAR! the instruments and Bob's voice comes across as clear as mountain spring water! Try it with good headphones and I guarantee you will be in AWE!

Man...I am extremely impressed with this dvd. I have yet to watch any of my other concert dvds(DM: A Night in Paris, New Order at Finsbury, U2: Elevation Tour, Talkin Heads: Stop Making Sense, Echo & the Bunnymen: Live at Liverpool) but I pray they are at least HALF the quality of this set!

"Cold" is an excellent song of Porno, in my opinion. I have not bought the DVD yet, but when I first got Porno, that track stood out most for me. Why wasn't it made a single and something drab like "Hanging Garden" was? Oh well. Still a good album though. Now, if only I had the cash to buy the DVD, which I don't, since the money I'm earning by working is going toward my college tuition/book/ethernet/food fund.

Funny you mention it, as I'm listening to 'Cold' off Pornography right now. It's my favorite song on the album, followed by Pornography and A Strange Day. If you want to download video of the song 'Pornography' from the Trilogy DVD (which I did, as there's been a delay in my getting hold of it), you can at this French website, as sugested by Chain of Flowers: http://www.premonition.fr/premor.php3?lien=chro/chrohm.php3X1Xc=219204X2Xta=3X2Xad=&ta=3 I don't know how to speak French, but if you click on the little purple box that shows up in the top-right corner of the review, then click on the MOV button that pops up on to the left of the review, then right-click-save on the button in the pop-up window that opens, you'll download it. So-so quality DIVX of that one song, but a great preview of things to come!

Think you'll find that the dM in Paris DVD has high quality DD5.1 sound Isamu, superior to Finsbury Park. I've also got a cranking AV set-up and I find the live NO DVDs to be disappointingly muddy-sounding. Don't think it's a studio mixing issue, they actually sound like that live(!) Can't tell you much about the Cure DVD because I don't have it.

If you're something of an audiophile with a high-end set-up and good taste in music I can recommend Underworld Everything Everything and Orbital's The Altogether -- the entire album was actually mixed in 5.1 channels and the sound quality is superb. Pity the actual album is a little hit and miss, musicwise.

Crank it up.

Yes I do like Orbital!! What is Underground Underground? Are thet techno/House/Dance? 808 State and DJ Taylor are my fave dance/house bands.

You're truly not familiar with Underworld? They've been one of the top three or so dance acts in the world for the past decade.

In my opinion, if the Cure wanted to preserve the sheer monolithic status of those three albums "Pornography" / "Disintegration" and "Bloodflowers" , they should have taken NO singles off them at all. As far as I recall, none came off "Bloodflowers" (is that right?), but three - or four - were lifted off "Disintegration" and as you've already pointed out, "Hanging Gardens" was a poor choice and should have stayed on the LP and all eight songs remain as a complete listening experience instead.

Has anyone else noticed that PORNOGRAPHY actually comprised part of an earlier "Trilogy" of Cure albums - starting with 17 Seconds and continuing with Faith?

The last Cure album I bought was Disintegration - they went a bit iffy after that!

Yeah, the Seventeen Seconds, Faith, Pornography trilogy would be a more fittingly named "dark" trilogy of albums. They are among my personal favorites. I would've loved to see the whole Faith album performed live. I believe Robert may have mentioned that Pornography serves as a bookend of one trilogy and the start of another. Now, have you noticed that the lyric "Your name like ice into my heart" from 'Cold' off Pornography is whispered during the middle of 'Last Dance' off Disintegration? there's a more obvious parallel between those two albums at least.

I saw them during the BloodFlowers Tour in Chicago. 3 hour concert. First encore consisted of four tunes from Faith. I was impressed they could still play those old songs. I plan to buy Trilogy but am a little apprehensive that they included BloodFlowers. IMHO that album is utter unlistenable shit. I love the Cure however but I listened to that album once. OK there may be 3 decent songs on it but it reminded me of how Ministry went totally dark and shitty with Filth Pig.

Listened / viewed yesterday to the DVD. Has anybody noticed a problem at the end of DVD1? The last 1.11 minutes give problems so probably i will have to replace it. First impression is good though. I noticed how "slow" the cure actually sounds and liked it (getting older and all of that). Noticed a remark on the box that said "digitally remastered album available 2004". Guess that means they will re-release the CD's again?
