Hopefully we'll make a stronger challenge than last year. Finnan will all being well address our lack of footballing ability at right back. It has been the weakest area and often results in the break down of play. That and the fact that the current squad hopefully can't play as badly as they managed for much of last season, both on an individual level and collectively.
Not too much is expected (in the short term anyway) of the two young French lads due to arrive(Le Tallec and Pongolle). Though some of the slightly older lads (such as Vignal and Diarra, maybe Otsemobor) who've been out on loan could perhaps give us some more options.
Realistically the likes of Cheyrou and Diao are unlikely to establish themselves as world beaters based on what we've seen of them so far but some improvement wouldn't go amiss. Therefore only a shrewd signing at left-midfield is likely to see a drastic turn around in our style of play . I’d personally prefer Kewell over Duff if either of them move on, at least someone who’s familiar with the premiership anyway.
Despite the impression given on phone-ins, forums and the rest of the media, most of the actual fans that attend games have enough patience to see how things develop after last season’s setback. Though the clamour for change could surface if we’re struggling at the mid-way point.
Given Arsenal’s lack of funds, the need to replace Seaman and Pires’ latest comments they could be struggling to live up to the high standards achieved recently. The same can’t be said of M. Utd, unfortunately any problems with personnel are just a flash of the cheque book away from a solution.
78million on 3 players proves they’re operating in a different league financially. That eclipses Houllier’s 55m Total net outlay and yet to hear some speak you’d think Houllier had spent more than Ferguson.
So in summary Liverpool to win, Arsenal 2nd, Chelsea 3rd, Newcastle 4th .:p
