Dear all, I was happening down Park Lane the other day and noticed a small gathering of journalist types outside The Grovesnor House Hotel. Mmm, I wondered. What gives?
We stuck around for a while, in front of the barrier (being civilian, we were excluded from the shackles of the photographers and film makers) then several stars, one by one, stepped free of their expensive rides to stride up to the hotel.
A sheer stroke of luck, but we ended up seeing: Kylie, Cat Deal Taker, Bryan Ferret Ferry, Simon Le BonBon and Yasmin Le BonBon, Sophie Extra Bextor, erm, loads in fact. Funny, but because we were just idling around, we were just walking up to the stars (like, almost nose to nose) and having a little see what they were like.
I know this must sound a bit stalk worthy, but really, it was a chance thing and I had my trusty camera at the ready ... besides which, the stars were lapping it up having the opportunity to talk with me, although they were a little nervous at first.
One wildly irritating thing, Bono the U2 front man entered the aquarium and stood besides me for about 10 minutes talking with people and giving an interview to some tv company. All the while I kept thinking, why not ask him his favourite brand of crisps? - damn it the opportunity was lost when the other members of U3 came 'round the corner and filtered into the hotel for sandwiches and tea.
My bird said, I wonder if we'll see any famous people today? - hey, you know. What can you say!? - when your with the Hunts, your likely to be in with the inner crowding.
And a small note, the 'only' person not to say hello to the crowd and sign autobiographies ... ladies and gentleman, Mr. Robert Geldof.
That's not to say that he didn't want to hurry along inside thinking there may be maniacs present.
Incidentally, we had stumbled across the 'Ivor Novello' awards ceremonies.
So who was the pretties of them all? - well then, that would be telling.
