Went to the Human League show at the tiny BB Kings blues club here in NYC last night (800-1000ish) and I am a better man for having gone. It was one of the best synth shows I've been to. (And I've been to many.) Phil Oakey was even more off-key than his usual trademark. They all confined their movements as much as possible (except for one of the keytarists/keyboardists who was all over the place). And the screens, which may have been a benefit of playing the club, utilized all sorts of early 80s cheese effects.
But to hear Being Boiled live with Oakey singing ominously in a hooded robe from the back of the stage was so campy and f*cking cool at the same time, I nearly stickied up my shorts. ![]()
Was treated to much of Dare, not a whole lot (2 trax) from Secrets, and although someone saw it on their setlist on the soundboard, they didn't play Empire State Human, which was sad. But you take the good with the bad. One Man, sang by Susan Sulley, was the one low point, but made for a perfect piss break.
If you haven't gone and it has yet to come to your town, go! It's synthilicious. ![]()
