The Blue Nile are great !

My favourite album is "Hats" - their style of music is not one I would normally go for, however, the songs are so beautifully crafted. There is an almost Joy Division sense of melancholy about their sound (think "Atmosphere" sung by Peter Gabriel). The sound quality on their albums is also first rate (they are on the Linn label - the Scottish makers of the worlds best turntable). Give yourself and your HiFi a treat and get "Hats"

There philosophy of 'less is more' is just like NO. An album every 6 years or so...they make great music though, tinseltown is a classic album and takes me right back to '84.

"Hats" is one of my all time favourite albums, the single "Stay" still gets to me even now.

ah, rocket mick, tinseltown in the rain is wonderful. i listened to that song everyday for a month after work. the slap-bass and the wonderful drumming that builds with extra "snappy" snare-drum goodness. should i be ashamed if i always sing along, especially to the "we'll its easy come and its easy go," bits. :uhoh:

sheesh.

What a great band! I agree with "Hats" being their best album, then again I tend to forget about them, they're so painfully slow, I mean, less is more but bugger all is bugger all (do they have dayjobs to go back to in between albums?)

How many albums have they released anyway? Is it 4 albums in 25 years?

And for those of you acquainted with that other Scottish gift to the world: (no, BESIDES the Shugster! :eeek3: ) I mean Inspector Rebus, his loyal sidekick and protege Siobhan is a fan of the Blue Nile (Rebus himself goes for older, rockier stuff)

The Blue Nile are certainly a class act. I am amazed that anybody outside of Glasgow nevermind Scotland have even heard of them. I thought they were just a local band. I managed to catch them live once and they were fantastic , I believe that one of the members writes interludes and jingles etc when he's not doing Blue Nile stuff. Respect to you all, you obviously love your music and know it well.

Yes you're right Rod did "The Downtown Lights" off the "Hats" album - a rare example of good taste on his part. However, the end results don't come anywhere close to the original. It's like Paul Young doing "Love will tear us apart" - all the depth in the original dissapears when performed by a lightweight artist.
