hello everyone :) (it's my first post on the off-topic board)
i'm trying to get myself into the "electronic beatles" as people know them - kraftwerk. i'm just wondering what a beginner fan should buy first. i'm thinking trans-europe express, but i'm not sure.
what do you all think?

Many people start with The Mix, which is a greatest hits of sort. But it's remixed, so you may want to start with the originals. Trans-Europe Express is a good one, as are Radioactivity, Computer World, Electic Cafe...sh!t, you just might have to get them all. Tour de France Soundtrack is the first new Kraftwerk album in ages and it comes out later this month, as well.
ya see, i don't know about tour de france. it's already out in the UK but it's received pretty poor reviews. i might just buy it and see what it's like.

:car: is a travel in time. The beggining of it all. And kommetenmelodie II is very beautiful.
"The Man Machine" is very good, too. The "softer" of them all, I think.
Your choice... They're all good... But not the remixes, please!
Go first for Autobahn, Trans-Europe Express or The Man-Machine. All great, all astonishing records. My favourite is probably The Man-Machine (though on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays it's TEE), which features No.1 hit The Model and the unsurpassably great, incredibly beautiful Neon Lights.
Don't buy the new one first, as it doesn't give much of an idea as to what they're about. It is, though, a very good modern house record, just not as mind-blowing, original and forward-thinking as the others.
Electronic Beatles? Pah...the Beatles wish they were as good as Kraftwerk! :D

Agree with all the suggestions here. Listening to The Man Machine right now, actually. First time in ages but stuck it on after seeing the name mentioned here. It is indeed the dog's dangly bits.
I've only heard snippets of the new one as yet and wasn't overly impressed, but I'll certainly give it a chance.

Once you've got all the albums mentioned above try "RALF & FLORIAN" next, it is definately the best of their early more obscure albums. The track "Annanas Symphonie" (Pineapple Symphony) is the only recorded use of Hawaiian guitar on a Kraftwerk record - I love it!
The other early albums "Tone Float", "Kraftwerk 1" and "Kraftwerk 2" are demanding listens and require an open mind on the part of the listener.
Did anyone listen to the interview on BBC London yesterday between Gary Crowley and Ralf Hutter? Ralf's not the most talkative of people, is he?
