the worst 80's movie ever

not too imaginative, i know. but while reading Blue Order's post regarding the fabulous movie "Lambada," i asked myself "what is the worst 80's movie?"

i am going to go with "Rad." That's the one with Lorie Laughlin (from Full House fame) and a bunch of no-name actors who all race BMX bikes in the beautiful town of Corcoran (where?). they eat KIX cereal, and race "helltrack" for no apparent reason, other than to be "the best". there is also a great scene involving a "bicycle boogie" and that Real Life song "Send Me an Angel." the only other reputable (i use the term lightly) band on here is Sparks.

a class-A piece of shit, and i love it :thumb:

so what's yours?

Isn't that the movie where the Earth passes through a comet's tail, and all of the machinery starts acting up on its own? If so, I remember laughing when the coke machine started spitting out soda cans faster than a fastball from Nolan Ryan. You're still right though, pretty bad movie.

Its' one of those "should've been a MSTie" Hollywood atrocities, but there are some genuinely funny things in that (I can't help but giggle over the crusher that barrels onto the field and proceeds to destroy the baseball team, along with the "isn't this scary?" accompanying music, almost certainly a "Psycho" ripoff).

Another stinker is the Eddie Murphy vehicle "The Golden Child". I don't know who the audience was for this, but I can't say I understood it then or now.

hmmm...I remember this one, and I think in my life I have only uncovered two other people that liked it...

Strange Brew

The Adventures of Bob and Doug MacKenzie...about a couple of brothers from Canada eh...it's a horrid movie, as far as movies go...but I love it...everyone else I ask about it usually just stares at me blankly...then when I pop it in for them to see...after about 30 minutes, they usually kill me for wasting their time...it's a good thing my body is quite resilient...

Not long ago I happened to see a wonderful 80's movie: The Re-Animator. But I just have to say that I hope whoever produced got sued to bits for shamelessly ripping off Bernard Herrmann's 'Psycho' score. Just listen to the opening credits and compare the two. Of course, Herrmann borrowed quite nicely from Shostakovich and Stravinsky, but that's beside the point.

Ok, terrible 80's movie--not the worst, but quite bad; was highly recommended to me by a trusted friend and fellow movie buff (who allegedly "grew up" on it); turned out to be a complete piece of crap: White Water Summer.

And what about "Eraserhead" by David Lynch, all those you mention are crappy films but they do not intend to pass off as art. What you are getting with them is unadulterated rubbish however Mr. Lynch's intention was to produce "Art" and all he managed to come up with were dancing chickens. :barf:

Eraserhead came out in 1976, so technically it isn't an 80's movie. The market on dancing chickens was cornered by Werner Herzog in Stroszek, not Eraserhead. And if you liked Eraserhead, you'll love Begotten, which is one of the weirdest fucking movies ever.

God, I used to work in a few theaters in the 80's, and I saw so many, many crappy movies that I lost count, which is one reason that I don't watch many of those big budget suckers today.

One that has stuck in my mind to this day is Monsignor, which stars Christopher Reeve, and has something to do with the Catholic Church, but I can't remember what, cause I walked out of it a third of the way through, and I didn't even pay to get in (I felt a bit sorry for the suckers who did, though). I'll let this quote from IMBD suffice for now:

One of the worst films ever made by big Hollywood. Sometimes it's so bad, it's funny, but not funny enough. Reeve is out of his depth, but the script is so bad no one could have saved it. Genevieve Bujold is a fine actress and tries gamely, but this part nearly destroyed her career. Classic scene: when the postulant (Bujold) discovers (in church) that the man who seduced her (Reeve) is a priest. We're supposed to feel her pain, but it plays as comically absurd rather than tragic. A complete miscalculation on all fronts

The only time I've ever squirmed so much in a theater, other than watching this atrocity, is when I had to go take a piss really bad.

THAT was bad...

As for Maximum Overdrive & The Golden Child, I don't agree!! Funny thing is that in Maximum Overdrive, the "girlfriend" with the irritating voice is the girl doing Bart Simpson's voice (or is it Lisa, not sure)...

Now that I think about it, those "Delta Force" movies by Chuck Norris....hell, ANY movie with Chuck Norris is shit!

Anyone remember "Invasion USA", where our man Chuck foils some inept terrorists who go around trying to blow up school buses and other pointless stuff? Makes for a great experiment in your own "MST3K" attempts...:D

Not Ghostbusters 2! I'm probably biased, though, since that was the first movie I ever saw in a movie theater, although the original is better I admit. I also remember playing with the action figures for both movies when I was younger, so I'm not really a fair critic. However, I did see the first Toxic Avenger movie this afternoon, and it's bad, but so purposefully bad that the movie seems funny.

I saw Tarzan, The Ape Man at about 1am today. God it as was shit, that Bo Derek can't act to save herself and her husband John can't direct anything except telling his wife to take her clothes off, and what the fuck was Richard Harris doing in it? His drinking problem must have gotten to him really bad by then. Also, what the fuck was Bo Derek doing producing the film, the only thing she produced during the film were her tits. Absolute fucken crap.

Yes, Ghostbusters 2 was a notch bellow the first, but not horrible. Add to the list:

Porky's: The Next Day Porky's Revenge

Wizard of Oz featuring Diana Ross & Michael Jackson was pretty bad...

Who's That Girl with Madonna was also pretty bad.

In fact any movie with Madonna except maybe A League of Their Own sucks (I haven't seen Evita though)...
