I am purchasing a small, non skipping mp3 player. Would like to keep it under $100 USD but may pay more for a mini-disc player. Anyone have a mini-disc player?? But a basic cd/mp3 player can be bought for $29 at Best Buy.

I have a Sony MD player...it's a nasty shade of gold...but got it on clearance for 40 bucks...and it's fantastic...I can't make the thing skip...running...shaking...I haven't tried bouncing it off the floor yet...if you can find one on a good deal...I'd say go for it...if you are willing to wait about a month or two...I might be able to get you a similar deal, since we are about to redo our electronics section for the Christmas rush...
I also have a Sony MD player. Fantastic piece of equipment. As TLS said, no skipping, excellent sound & not at all costly to run (I'm sure most portable cassette players I've owned over the years cost me more in batteries). Plus, blank MD's are cheap. Look for a player with long play feature, I have a couple of compilation discs made with over 30 tracks & no loss in sound quality.
MD is the way to go!

Shortly after posting this my (portable) MD player has gone for a shit. When I put a disc in, recorded or blank, I get a message saying 'No Disc' or it spins noisily for a while & then I get 'Disc Error' message.
Anyone here know what could be wrong? And before anyone suggests the troubleshooting guide in the manual.............

The best mp3 player is the old ipod, the new one is shit because of the crappy battery life, but my ipod in the ten months I've had it has frozen only twice, and it does not skip, earlier today it was making an awful buzzing noise and the songs became really choppy, but a scandisk and a disk defragmentation of the hard drive did the trick, but that took three hours 
. I've dropped this thing at least ten times and it is still perfect, and I use it at least an hour each day, and I always have it in my pocket when i go out, and I still get nine hours of battery life out of the battery. The only problem is that getting it meant I did not get an xmas gift , but the 360 bux were worth it in the end.
I may get a cheap one just to get me to LA and back. I am also driving the Jag to Chicago the week before, about 5 hours or so each way depending on how lucky I feel. The cat is rated to do 155 mph all day long but Five-O does not like that. A long trip means more time to listen to NO boots.
