As some of you may know, I've been trying to turn my skills at being a wise-ass into a writing career of some sort recently, because the field for lifetime bag-boys is bereft of hope. Well, I am happy to announce that

  1. A piece I sent to Hitch magazine (a pop culture humor mag) has been accepted for publication. the editor will either include it in the fall issue or, if unable to fit it in, in the spring issue.

  2. Another piece I submitted to the website Nothing Sacred (I'll paste the link when my piece is up on the site) has been accepted, and will most likely appear sometime next week.

Now, neither of these can pay cash for free-lance submissions  but I'm getting my foot in the door, and it doesn't even hurt. I've also sent some stuff out to Modern Humorist and National Lampoon.com, but haven't heard back from them yet :mad2: and I might even try a submission to the grand-daddy of them all, Mad Magazine, sometime in the near future. :evil4:

Maybe now I can get laid....

Right now it's more fictional, but I plan to start drinking heavily in order to facilitate more "true-to-life" vignettes

Actually, I've been mulling over the possibility of trying to start up a humor mag myself for about a week or two now...I'll let you know if anything comes of that

Good job!  Now, how would one go about first finding a mag to submit stuff to? Do you just send your stuff to them or are there contests you submit stuff for?

I thought a sense of humour was required for such things?

I mean... well done.... :thumb:

I just looked it up over the much-abused-this-summer Yahoo Humor link under entertainment, they have a few shady fly-by-night organizations like the Onion and Modern Humorist under that title. Usually they'll have something about submissions, either con (Onion don't want none) or pro (MH and many others want lots). :thumb:

What other search engines are still in existence? I remember more than just Yahoo back when I was at Uni of So. Carolina back in '97, but I've been so used to Yahoo I don't even remember the other big ones (Lycos and....and......?). They might have more humor links, or just the same as Yahoo
