Does anyone have a recording of the original 12" mix of In A Lonely Place, as described on....

In A Lonely Place differences

Any format whatsoever would be great, mp3, etc. Cheers!! :clap:

But it´s the same that the 12´version, i don´t find differences between this two versions!! :confused2:

Andrew Morrison describes the slight differences if you follow the link. I've not heard both to compare. Has anyone else? Is there definitely a difference?

Never thought about this, to be honest... I'll have a look through various MP3s when I get home and see if I have the version you're after...

We're talking ultra subtle differences though. You're not going to find an earth-shatteringly alternate version of IALP here I'm afraid :)

I think the basic difference between the vinyl versions of IALP and the Substance/Retro mastering is a background effect or two is missing. One of the swooshing effects or a thunderclap is omitted for some reason. I would think the three IALP versions Andrew is talking about are:

Original 7" version (4:35) Original 12" version (6:12) Substance 1987/Retro version (6:16)

I did investigate this a few years ago and there is a difference but as I say, it's just like one of the effects is missing, nothing more noticeable than that.

Cheers for the info guys. So according to Andrew's comparison, the 'original' recording would appear to be on the first 12" release, with the green sleeve. It seems bizarre that such subtle, inconsequential differences were made to a second recording, a mistake maybe? SHEDi, if you have this mp3, please drop me a line matey.

After much searching on P2P's, I finally tracked down the original 12" recording of IALP, and can confirm Andrew Morrison's comparison is correct - there are indeed added/subtracted 'thunderclap' noises at the points he said. I had no reason to think he was ever wrong of course, but it's good to hear the differences myself and to track it down.
