New Order live @ Coachella Festival - Indio (USA) - 2005.05.01

I've enjoyed reading all the Coachella thoughts. I've been a NO fan for at least 20 years, so was emotionally prepared to see them/ share them at a smorgasbord festival. Honestly, it was refreshing to see the rawness of their act-- Barney's pain, the sound troubles, etc. It reminded me of the robots we are presented with everyday, the lip synchers, the backup tapes, the photoshopped untalented mavens, the people who don't even bother to play their instruments. Living in LA, I loved how old and normal they looked-- un-plastic surgeried, pale as anything, just so real to their Manchester roots I just loved it. A slick show may have scared me. Does this make any sense? They're just Brits at the pub, loving their football. They're not tabloid fodder crap, they haven't married plastic blond bimbos, they have in fact fallen off their pub stools a few times, but it's all good. Imagine a slick, Clear Channel Marketing Ready moneymaking version of Atmosphere coming out of the speakers. Would it scare you? And I respect playing us the new ones. What balls or bollocks I should say! They're basically saying Fuck you frat boy fans! because we (fans) all appreciated the new songs. I've said enough, of course.

I'd agree with you...except for the backup tape part.

Everyone gets 1 hour to play on the stages. That's just the way it is at Coachella. Goldenvoice has done a tremendous job with the Coachella festival since 1999 by bringing in all sorts of acts from a variety of backgrounds. You may be purely a New Order fan, which is your own right, but don't be so ready to attribute blame and not realize what a tremendous festival this is and how difficult it is to organize so many bands and acts in one venue.

Not true. Nine Inch Nails, who were on directly after New Order, had an extra 15 minutes for their set as did Coldplay the day before.

I finally got around to reading all the posts abotu Coachella.

I agree with almost everything, the postive and negative. Yes it was a rough set, not like My Boys up here in WA- Love Vigilantes playing a small club. But that roughness did provide a nice realness to the show... Barney is a real guy, playing up there for us through his pain (I have had bad sprained ankles, I feel his pain!)....

I listened to NO when I was a teen, and I didn't even know who they were or anything at the time. So this show was the chance for me to fufill myself in a way I never could. It was amazing in that alone.

Thanks to everyone who was there to share in my moment. :) I love dancing and singing along with 20k other people.

Bernard had an adidas top on as well, with Muhammad Ali written on the back, not sure if they were the recipients of swag from the company or not.

Phil had an Adidas top on in Oakland. Same button up top Hooky's wearing in some promo pics.
