Any chance of more U.S. dates????

Hello folks,

Just joined today, after avoiding some work here in the office and visiting the site out of curiosity.  I about fell out of my chair upon reading that NO is finally touring the U.S. again.

I see there is a quite a gap of time between the New York date and their dates in Europe. Now I know they'll want to take a little break in between, but does anyone know if there's any possibility of more U.S. shows being added before they head back home?  Just wondering if I should go ahead and plan on traveling to Chicago or (more likely) NYC to see them, or wait until they come down my way (DC).

I bet they will do some US gigs in 06.  But if I built a way back machine I'd set the controls for the Spring of 84 destination Europe.

Cool, Wen.  I'm also in Baltimore.  I am getting tickets to both shows but not positive I'm going to the Chicago one just yet.  Are you flying Southwest to Chicago?  I was checking out flights.  Let me know.

Actually I think I'm going to get tickets to both Chicago and NYC, and then figuring out later which show I'll make it to, and sell the tickets to the other show.  I'd like to hit both shows as you plan to, but I've already got a trip to see Dylan in Boston planned, then a big fat expensive vacation in London for the second half of May.  Gotta draw the line somewhere, unfortunately.

Very cool...I may have to check that out.  Is O'Hare close to the venue?  I may be doing the same exact thing.  My wife was going to head to Chicago with me if I couldn't find a buddy to go but I'm not sure we'd both be able to go to both shows.  That'd be kind of tough with the kids.  My brother and some other friends want to go to the NY show but can't really commit to doing both, so I may also have a ride back.  I can let you know.  My bro actually lives very close to Charles Village.  I live in Bel Air but am very familiar with the Charles Village area.  I'm totally psyched to get a chance to see them again.  I did catch Monaco at the 9:30 Club in DC and talked to him for a few.  I'll try and figure out what I'm doing about the shows and I'll let you know.

They need to tour with Depeche Mode in '06.  That would be the absolute ultimate concert experience.

Depeche & New Order together would be crazy and together they could sell some serious tickets.  Depeche has always (up until singles tour) played 2 nights in Chicago, but didn't quite sell out the Rosemont Horizon (or whatever it's called now) for 1 night during Singles tour.

Hey now, what's wrong with New Order opening for Depeche Mode?  That certainly makes more sense than them opening for Coldplay.

On another note, both Depeche Mode and New Order deserve to be inducted into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.  I'd like to see them get inducted at the same time.

New Order and the Cure would be decent though.

I love New Order as much as I love Depeche Mode but let's be honest, Depeche Mode has a solid song bank, and been consistent for over 20 years.  They are still pretty huge in USA and can still sell out stadiums in California, Chicago, and New York.  They are not quite washed up yet.  Regretfully, I'd have to put New Order closer to that category even though I think they're a lot better than the Aragon Ball Room.

In USA New Order and Depeche Mode have practically the exact same fan base, but Depeche's base is larger and more loyal.  While Depeche may be slipping, having New Order would energize the fan base.  It's kind of like the hard rock bands in the 80's, none of them could play a stadium alone, but you get 5 or 6 of them together and the rockers get interested in that kind of venue.

I understand people giving up on New Order with their short 45 minute concerts, and no album that has moved the base since Substance in 1987 or maybe Technique.  Admitting they hate to tour turns off fans, we want to see them, they are our heros to us.  I took a lot of shit in high school for them just for being a fan.  Depeche on the other hand loves touring.

I still think NO & DM together would be a solid concert and they could help each other.  I know Hooky loves touring.  Especially when he was single.  (Married now isn't he?)

It's a totally different attitude to the band over here to be fair, a different market.

New Order haven't done a 45 minute set since 1983, for the record. One or two shortish ones in 1985-6 that just scraped 50 minutes, but the days of eight songs and off are well since dead and buried.

In England the two fanbases are 'poles apart'. I have nothing against Depeche Mode, per se, but I'm not particularly a fan of their music, and don't think I even know anyone, certainly who follows New Order, who purports to be a massive Depeche Mode fan too ... which is strange really, because I do actually know quite a lot of accountants.

Hooky's comment has been that they regret not touring the US to support the last album (but was that just him?), so I'm hoping for more US dates.  Saw them here with PIL and the Sugarcubes YEARS ago; a line-up of several bands like that would make for a great show and tour.  They also said they already have enough songs cut for another album, so we can hope for another tour.  If the Stones can tour year after year, surely NO can keep up with the old fogeys.

That's pretty funny to read. Every club I've ever been in that plays a New Order song is usually following it up with a Depeche Mode or Cure song. Personally I thought NO should have hopped on the Curiosa Tour with the Cure. At least in the states it would make sense.
