Interestingly, they played all four Joy Division songs that they are currently playing. New Order are definitely aware of the significant Joy Division fanbase in Italy.
EGG was a wonderful addition to the set. Nice to see it back after 18 years!

That's why they are called New Order! 
I don't think one alteration every night is anywhere near enough what we want though, do you? It used to be an entirely different set if they were playing two consecutive nights at a venue, and a 75% different set if they were playing two consecutive days!
I see what you mean, Tim, but I remember an interview, I think it was from Gillian, from around 86-87, I think. She said that, as they played different songs every night, they had to rehearse almost every song they had recorded and that it was a bit exhausting. Now, with all the albums that came afterwards and the limited time for rehearsals, it would be pretty impossible to do that anymore, especially with someone who has to learn all the songs from scratch.
So, I guess we have to be glad that there's far more variations in the setlists, even though pretty limited, than on the Get Ready dates where they generally were absolutely no surprises.
I mean, in Werchter, when I heard "Your Silent Face", I was so pleased because I didn't expected it.
I would have loved to hear them play EGG though. How was it, by the way ?

which of course is alright for the absolute hardcore who work hard to see every gig. but they rarely play two consecutive gigs in the same country now - how gutted would you be if they'd played egg, aoc, lonesome, perfectx, vpoint etc at brussels or turin and at hyde park we'd got the songs that you'd seen them play recently or the likes of state of the nation, every little counts and all day long! (which in this context reads quite appealingly). every gig I've been to of theirs I've left with the nagging feeling that something's been left out. at HP it was EGG because I've always missed seeing them play that but that gig left me feeling the closest to full I've been. at least now, when the less fortunate of us are drawing straws in the gig lottery they're roughly all the same length. I'm less prompted to setlist envy when I'm fairly sure what to expect and just hope for the element of surprise (autocue failure included). it would have been nice to be in turin though....

Yup, the Joy Division songs got the best responses of the night - crowd actually started moving and singing along to those songs, especially Transmission.
