New Order @ Brixton Academy on Thurs 10th Nov

Yes, "Ceremony" was fantastic; wonderful to see Gillian with her new 'KT Tunstall' hairdo in the wings; and the beery fun in the pub beforehand was, as ever, a blurred pleasure.

Highlight of the evening for me, however, was the sight of one Mr Allen Jarvis stood stock still amidst the bouncing hordes with an expression like someone had just pissed in his pint, making 'wanker' gestures towards the stage and telling anyone who'd listen that New Order (the band that he's spent years and thousands of pounds following all over the world, remember) are - and I quote - "shit".

It's simply from the film, no more, no less. It was a vague idea for an enamel badge for a few of us who did some gigs in Europe in 2002. Absolutely fantastic! First time seeing the band and they didn't dissapoint. I managed to get one row back from the front, about where Barney's mic was. It was great to get into it and do some moshing-drenched in sweat and feeling exhausted and high at the same time afterwards.

Too many things to mention, loved hearing Temptation, WFTSC, LWTUA...seeing Barney dance and Hooky stalk around the stage, Steve in action, and Phil who seemed to do a fine job. Saw Gillian too.

Nice meeting some of you folks in the pub as well!

Cannot wait for monday!

As I'm lucky enough to be going back for more at the Hall of Fame next week, I better at least get a post in on these forum things, otherwise people might think I'm a ringer! The question I have pondered since 11pm last night is: U2 at Twickenham in June? Pixies at Ally Pally in August? How about White Stripes at the Ally Pally 2 days ago? Nah, Gig of 2005 was N/O, easy. Despite a complete lack of "Technique" (Bad memories for Barney?)it was a stormer. Just about everything has already been said about this gig, suffice to say there were just no bad songs. BLT made me dance like I was 17 again. Great sing along action from the crowd too. And as for introducing a "slow song", well that usually makes my heart sink . But not when it turns out to be a joyous YSF. A quick word about the support; Battle were as shite as I remember them from a recent XFM gig, but Delphian Complex were worth arriving early for. A sort of N/o meets Primals meets er, Kasabian band who will surely move up the pecking order at these sort of gigs. Anyone know who the 40ish looking bloke was down the front-right dancing like a loon, during Delphian Complex's set(y'know when it was reaaally empty)?

don't be too hard on him now, he took us down so far and then decided it was close enough, concerned for our safety of course :D or maybe the guys we ran into were just too big ...

Anyway, it was a great night, well worth it! I loved every minute of it, perhaps the Shadowplay performance wasn't the best ever, but I sure appreciated it being played. Noticed a lot of the crowd around us not being very enthusiastic. Unfamiliarity perhaps? Drove Deek mad all yesterday going on and on and on ... Nice to see some familiar faces like DoN, Shug, Tim, Mark, DC, Hacienda and so forth. Also some new ones (well new to me anyway) like Uncle Liam and Simon. Big thank you to Clive for me ticket, thanks to Colin for my second badge and a big cheers to Julie and Claire. It was lovely meeting you both. I had a wonderful time, hope you did too!

Had to laugh on the tube back, this guy starting talking to us after he spotted my viking badges and started on about us being girls and the Order being a lads band... oh no, not that one again!

Fookin hell. Don't remember a thing about it. Last time I drink Brandy again! I remember all night going on about Lonesome Tonight. I really thought they may of played it as I remember an interview with Hooky saying they are thinking of doing it. Plus with 2 Guitar's thought it would sound good.

Yes, top night. They were certainly on form. Lovely to hear Ceremony, even better to hear Turn. I had selfishly hoped that Shadowplay and Warsaw would have been Peel Night one-off's, but looks like they're going to get regular. Shadowplay was a complete mess, but Barney did lose his guitar at the start, and it can't be easy singing with a guitar tech crawling all over you trying to swap equipment.

I'm sure Hooky impregnated most of the front row with his bass godliness, what a fucking star.

Nice to meet the old and the new in the pub. Martin in particular recieved some unwarranted piss taking, and I'd like to apologise for my part in that*.

Anyway, if they can put on a show like that for a bunch of Southern pansies then Manchester should be immense.
