Enjoy - last time I was up in Aberdeen, I saw 808 DJ at the Lava Club (in Belmont Street) in 2001 - they were going to be playing live in Dundee the next night. After only a couple of hours sleep, breakfast was at the Frankenstein (?) pub... That was quite a night! 
Bit too far for me to come up for just a Hooky DJ set though! :)

Hi, i'm the promoter for the Aberdeen gig (I also promoted Hooky's gig in Shetland a couple of months ago).
The gig is taking place in a new club in Aberdeen called Lo-Down which is just across from the Tunnels in Carnegie Brae, Aberdeen.
The club has a 600 capacity.
Support is provided by Paul Mackie who was the singer in the Stone Roses tribute band Fools Gold (they played at the recreated Hacienda set for the 24 HR Party People film), he will be performing an acoustic set to kick off the night.
Hooky is up first DJing from 11pm - 1am, followed by Jon Dasilva who will DJ some Hacienda classics through until 3am.
Tickets for what should be an extraordinary night in Aberdeen are available from One Up in Belmont Street, Aberdeen.
i think i'll have to get my arse in gear and coast to coast to make my debut in aberdeen for this one

Just thought I'd let the Aberdeen mob know I unfortunately won't be making tonight. Long story short: I woke up with a dodgy throat on Tuesday morning and it's developed into the usual winter blues (sore throat, cold, zombified state etc.) I was hoping it would be a three day wonder but no luck.
Hope everyone has a good time, no doubt Mr Biginoil will be giving me some earache about this over MSN :) I'm pretty pissed off myself I won't get to say hello to Hooky and have a few beers with any Vikings but my bed is just more attractive at the moment. It's up to you lot to hassle Hooky enough to make sure he comes back north of the border sometime soon (preferably with his band in tow) :D

It was a top night, which fell to peices a bit at the end. No biggy though, it was time to go home anyway. A couple of bad apples who were friendly enough earlier but got jittery after their WIMming. Life's about new experiences though, and I have never had the experience of being threatened with a New Order/Stoke flag being shoved up my, erm, erse before!
Chemical Brothers with Bernard Sumner at the Academy would have been a better bet though. Hope to see the Chems again on this tour. Worth it for the lights alone, although the music is spot on too.

He didn't seem to stick around much after his set, funnily enough.
As I said, 90% of the room were really friendly. Lots of cameras taking pictures of Hooky and one another. One girl came and asked me if she could take my pic - was going to ask her why later on but events took over and I never got the chance. There was a bloke their who looked the IMAGE of Shug (well he did to me and Clayhead after god knows how many ales). The Shug-a-like was delighted to hear that we had a mate who was as handsome as him and more than happy to pose for some pictures (which will be posted here soon). The flag went down a storm; loads of people came over and asked about it, congratulating CH for coming all that way for Hooky. Even after WIM, most of the crowd took it in good spirit, which was why the sudden animosity was so surprising. It didn't spoil the night though - it was a good laugh, Hooky's the man, Clayhead is too.

As I said, 90% of the room were really friendly. Lots of cameras taking pictures of Hooky and one another. One girl came and asked me if she could take my pic - was going to ask her why later on but events took over and I never got the chance. There was a bloke their who looked the IMAGE of Shug (well he did to me and Clayhead after god knows how many ales). The Shug-a-like was delighted to hear that we had a mate who was as handsome as him and more than happy to pose for some pictures (which will be posted here soon). The flag went down a storm; loads of people came over and asked about it, congratulating CH for coming all that way for Hooky. Put it this way, I watch Barney play, pick up my guitar and do my best to copy.
I watch Johnny play, pick up my guitar, give it a wipe down and sadly put it back in the case.
Nothing wrong with either approach. Barney, to paraphrase a quote I read recently, is punk about his skills. Johnny is serious about his guitar playing. Electronic were great, but am I the only one to wonder what would have happened if Johnny had teamed up with Hooky for a snidey sidey?
I read an interview with Noel Gallagher years ago. He said that Johnny Marr gave him a guitar which he broke at a gig by smashing it across a stage-invader's head. He wrote and told Marr what happened and the next day took delivery of something really big and heavy (box Gretch?) and a note that said (paraphrasing again) 'try this, it's built like a brick wall and will break the skull of anyone without going out of tune.

I learned to play by copying Johnny Marr's Smiths riffs. He's an absolute guitar genius, that guy.

Edit: Actually, I did learn some basic Marr riffs when he was playing with The The. Just stuck on, I think, an open E and plucked the strings in different order. Such a simple thing to do, but brilliant the way he did it. Then I got cocky and thought I could copy everything he did.
Then I gave my guitar a sad wipe and put it away again.

Colin/Martin - although it wasn't a good idea of hooky's to play WIM on the same night as the WC draw, the trouble there appears to have been is bloody typical of the amount of 'would-be-thinky-casuals' there are at every event that happens in aberdeen these days.....muppets.....

Oh, we had a great time - pity you couldn't make it. In fairness to the good folk of Aberdeen, that is the one and only time I've ever been given any grief for being English in that town. Though I've been given grief for plenty of other things.....
