LOL, I'll not be able to afford to go after spendin me cash on the apollo :) Don't suppose you're going? I want a playmate for the bus :)

No Steve, London & Manchester won't be on the cards i'm afraid. Would love to be going to the Manc gig but its too short notice :uhoh:

Makin it to manc is gonna fuck me up in all sorts of ways, but I've gone past caring.

I should mention, that I can take one of you mainlanders on my sofa if you're coming over for this one. It'll be particularly handy for those travelling out of belfast city airport, cos I'm 2 mins from the train, which gets you right to the airport in like 20 mins.

Is this still on? And I repeat my offer that I can take an out of towner for the night as long as they don;t mind a very comfy couch.

Yeah says so on the ATL website Steve

Well I'm going to be on the orange juice or coke or whatever non-booze I can actually afford to drink, after Manchester I'm taking the pledge (on gig night anyway). SO that's be TWO sober people in Lavery's then.

Hoping I can get him to sign my saville show cd for my sister who couldn't do apollo on account making baby new order fans.

Think I might drive up this one aswell, heading out early on the Saturday for the Belfast Beer Festival.

You still heading to this one Steve

Hell yeah, gonna be a good little boy, listen to the nice music and get the last train home. Gonna see if i can get 'im to sign me community CD, and me saville show one for me wee sis who was far too preganant for the apollo :) he does play some very good tunes too so he does. IF he dares drop "strings of life" Belfast wont know what's hit it.

Only thing I'm trying to work out is what to drink, what's cheap and doesn;t get you pissed, but isn;t water.

It's kinda handy for me, i live like 100 yrds from bangor station, wander on train, and off at botanic and it's only round the corner. What time you heading? I'm sort of hoping it's not too mad, but lavery's is always mad on a friday night.

What time do you think Steve, wonder what would be the best time to get Hookys sig.

I honestly dunno, I can't see him clockin in the bar all evening waiting his turn, more likely he'll show up just before his time, do his thing and then stick around for a bit of a larf. I'd almost say "wait til he sticks a long record on, then present him with a nice fresh glass of whatever he's tippling". One thing I want nothing to do with is the man beig mobbed or harrassed, if theres a crowd of pissheads round him I'll probably not even approach. It's not so much about me wanting the sig, as it is about looking him in the eye and saying thanks for all the beautiful basslines, and for teaching me we weren;t just meant to stand here going dum dum dum. Hell I may even give the guy a cd with a few slightlynarrow tunes on it so he can see that people have taken what he does and done their own thing with it, tho more likely he'd love Rich's bonusbeat insanities more. The only thing that would dissuade me from that is communication. I'd hate for him to think I was thrusting him a demo and saying "please Mr Hook get us a deal". If I can't make it clear that the spirit of the thing is "sod all the wassacks on the telly citing you as an influence cos it's cool, here's some music that would REALLY NOT HAVE EXISTED but for you and those other nutters, take it home wrap yer ears round it and I hope you like it". I reckon there's no greater compliment to a musician than knowing they caused more music to be made.

But if everyone's tearing at him like a bit of meat, I'm not gonna be part of that, he aint Britney and i aint 14 :) I'm kinda hoping that sober and plite will be a novelty on the night so he'll be pleased to see me :)

Kinda lookin like just you, me and the usual lavery's crowd then mate.

Mr Owens, you putting in an appearance?

Where'd Shelly get to?

No Dublin Order( I'm sure that's written on a wall inbelfast somewhere), no English Order? I know it's only a DJ set, but I still thoguht we could pull together a decent posse. :(

I might, depends if I can get out of work in time.

Went the time he missed his plane.

Still not 100% sure if I can make this or not, didn't realise how low by bank balance is. Beer Festival on Saturday is def a no no

Any idea what the door tax is likely to be, I'm tryin to do this on like 20 quid :)

I'd have loved to be there Steve, but its no3's 3rd birthday, so I won't be leaving the Pale this Friday! Enjoy yerselves, & tell Hooky he's a God. Hope he plays the 'gracejones/monaco shes lost control' - its great & will totally piss off the punters:thumb:

You have 3? and No3 is comin 3?

Fuck me man, you didn't look THAT haggard :)

Kinda hoping he doesn;t weigh in and start too late, like cinderella I gotta go at like 23:15, unless I get rich twixed now and then and suddenly can afford a joe baxi.

EDIT: Someone should warn him I'll go off like a supernova if he plays "strings of life".....and if I drag my cohort Mr R. Hayes along, he'll be worse. Only ever heard the short set he did for XFM on Hyde park day, bloody good it was too.

Its def on Steve, £5 at the door.

Christopher Owens wrote: What part do we meet up in, so I can meet youse face to face?

Its in the middle bar Christopher. I'm still not 100% sure if i'll be there or not but i'll be wearing a black New Order t-shirt and i'll probably be standing like a gimp with my pastic carrier bag with Retro Box Set & Singles

And I'll have me "curtis coat" and vikings badges on, and be lookin really nervy :)

20 years( and then some) you wait....then see the fooker twice in 2 weeks WTF.

i was thinking we should give 'im a Xmas card from the NI-Order :) (we could include directions and contact details for the Ulster hall, just in case :) )

If I pluck up the courage I'll post the pic of me from manc.

Love is: yer GF ringing you up to say "how come u said u had to get the last rain home, I'll lend you 20 bills so u can stay a bit later"

:)

I don't deserve her.

Mind you, weather keeps up like this, he'll be stuck at the airport on the far side again :(

Its fecking shite at the min Steve, probably be worse tomorrow too.

Me bro's a total flight sim junkie, I'm quite sure I'll know the moment any airports start closing :)

Jesus, I hope poor Hooky doesn't get stranded on the way BACK, that'd be grim, stuck in belfast.

Mr Owens, I heard u have a really good lookin mate called Michael, Is it true he looks like Jim Morrison??

What time do you think you'll get into Belfast tonight Steve.

Probably 9-ish (train at 8:20). Does that sound reasonable? I seem to recall the front of lavery's is often a scrum on a firday night, hope that doesn't kick off til later :)

You need a copy of Mike's Brixton CD? I think I could arrange that.

Yeah Brixton CD sounds great Steve, if you have time to do a copy. I'll drive up at around 8pm should only take me 30-40 mins, have to find somewhere to leave the car.

have a good one folks, see you's there :) i think 'Georgie, The Belfast Boy' is in NEED of a play!

I'd say so. I'm sure hooky as a manc man, will have something to say about Bestie.

I'll see all you freakers at nine-ish.

Hope the sell rescue blankets behind the bar, i think we'll all need em.

FWIW, I might still bail on the last train, purely to avoid the 0130hrs madness to try and get one. I'm not too likely to be the life and soul of the party anyway :)

We'll raise a glass tonight to Bestie (not very appropriate I know)

Look forward to seeing you there. My mate Spook'll be there. I'll be wearing the Killing Joke t-shirt and leather jacket.

That's a forgone conclusion isn't.....I knew that it had to be self same "good lookin mate" biggin' himself up :)

I did find myself thinking....Looks like Jim Morrison....you mean fat, heavily decomposed and smelling of cheap whiskey.

And a glass will be very appropriate, georgie boy can drink WTF he wants now :)

Excuse u me, i'll have u know, that whilst Jim Morrison may have been a drunk and fat n all that towards the end, he got more women, that u can dream of. And Fair play to him, I just think he was one of the best songwriters this world has ever seen, and before u all start yer yappin like a bunch of milly's lol, i said one of them.

So there now, thats fairly cleared things up now, hasnt it?

Thanks for the welcome Chris. I think i'll stop by here more often, just to annoy steve :thumb:

I shall be having a drink to Bestie tonight, at least he doesnt have to suffer this bloody weather anymore.

Rest in Peace oul Best.

In nomine padre et fili et spirutus santus, or somethin like that anyway :shades:

Oh aye, I forgot to say mate, I can't get intouch with Chris C, i think o2's masts are down or somethin, well... anyway, i'll keep tryin, i'll meet u in the bottom bar around 9:15? i'll probably be in there with the old men drowning our sorrows. Speak to you later, txt me if ur runnin late.

In shoulda kept that one to myself. but that's the kinda public spirited guy I am.

And yes O2 went baps up about midday (cos me ma's work's phones are all O2 and all died), should be back my now I'd have thought. Must have been something other than masts tho for the outage to be so wide.

Top show, the man is a true gent, brought us up to the decks to sign shit and shake paws. He also split his sides laughing and shook his head when we openned up with a barrage of "nu oddah nu oddah"

As much of his set as I heard was really brilliant, any of you bumbags have a copy of one of his shows?

And best of all I can now confirm 100% that hooky has a copy of community, I gave him my spare, he grinned at it and popped into his cd case.

Nice one Steve - so are you going to make it to Manc at the end of January for the Manc Aid gig? :)

A fantastic set. He kept looking over at me for dancing like a tit.

Had to leave at 1:25am when he'd started Transmission. But I made him laugh. During Bodyrockers, I shouted ' I like your bass playing', and he laughed.:eek3:

From the tunes I recognised:

SLC (Grace Jones) Krafty (remix) BLT (Crystal Method) Song 2 (remix) I Like The Way You Move Galvanise Mr. Brightside Anarchy BM Crystal Transmission

Great to meet Steve and Richard. Top lads.:thumb:

I think i will have to save my strength for NOOLday if it happens. I suspect that another macnquest right now would very possibly kill and or bankrupt me.

Chris, so you didn't execute plan:"grab hooky tightly by the nuts while giving him loud clear directions to the Ulster Hall from lavery's and all major air and seaports in Ireland as well as bigging up the accoustics and don't let go til he gets the picture"

bummer. Still good to meet you, dunno about the Door fan tho :)

(only kiding mate :) )

BTW, if you're wondering why all us "hardcore NI order" bailed early. Read this dateline, if you've lived it, you've got your answer, if you haven't lived it, god bless your luck.

Shaftesbury Square 0145hrs

And various other spots that have to be navigated in cars......anyone ever try the stranmillis road at that hour? you have to plough through them, it's like a disaster movie. This isn;t rioters, just pissed mongs....the cops and the army both said "plough em" to us one night, it worked too, a nudge from a car does wonders to snap you out of your pissed staring around you in the middle of the road mood.

Sorry Steve. The bouncers at the stage kept giving me dirty looks the whole night, so felt it was unwise to try and grab Hooky's balls, let alone point out the Ulster Hall or the Limelight.

BTW it was fooking madness last night. Dancefloor was packed, and so was Shaftsbury Square.

But a fantastic night nevertheless.

Mick was well impressed by the set, and has started asking me about NO albums to get...

It's like I told him, it's an infection, and it spreads, you start doing a little light blue monday at weekends, then maybe a spot of technique the odd evening and before you know it, you're only listening to one band :) AND saying really stupid stuff like "no way man, they've never made a bad song, no not even rock the cock".

I figure we'll have to do what Jarvo (twas you Al wasn't it)and all had to do to get ceremony back. We'll have to appear at all their gigs with a huge banner with "Ulster Hall, round the corner from the BBC: Tel 028 9032 3900"

Bouncers looked fairly scarey the whole night, mind you Hooky ignored them, moving the ropes to let us up was just excellent.

Thought if you bailed at 125 you may have got out in one piece, guess another 100,000 pissheads had the same idea. I'm so grateful to Richard for the lift, can you imagine trying to get a taxi out there after closing time. The don;t even run the fightrider anymore, not that i'd get on the thing even if they did, 14 miles with the contents of Bangor's (and the peninsula (shudder)) housing estates, freshfaced and full of harp after a night drinking with their hood relatives. Best bit is, half way down the road my phone beeped.....got home read the message and it was Rich (hayes, the other half of the slightlynarrow) with the address of an excellent party in Ratchcool street. Not that I was in any condition but still.

I'm talking Billie boy sized here, you at one side of the hall, me at the other and some vikings along the length to keep it safe.

lol billy boy size. Hey and u keep ur fuckin comments to urself mr lol.

Was a great fuckin gig, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and yes Chris had hookey's attention throughout the whole night. Probably wanted to keep an eye on the shifty fuckers lol.

It was good meeting u guys, you are both sound as fuck. Glad to hear u got home alright.

and remember, if u can't be arsed, just stick some cheesy Country love song on, as Hookie did last night, at least, thats what it sounded like.

Its was a top night, great to meet Christopher, Steve & Mick you are all top lads :thumb: Hooky is actually a really good DJ and it was great that he signed Retro, Singles and Finsbury Park DVD for me :)

I can also confirm that Christopher Owens is not a goth :D

the Cheezy country record was probably Country Joe and the Fish or Captain Beefheart, for an old punk, Hooky harbours some very advanced and strange tastes.

Still can't expect you to know that.

Don't worry you WILL grow out of the Morrison worship thing (just keep repeating his Biog by Dennis Leary.."I'm drunk, I'm nobody. I'm drunk, I'm famous. I'm drunk, I'm dead" and it'll all be ok) the ginger thing, you're fuckin stuck with that, but in bar-light you do appear almost to be a member of the human race.

Heya,

Wasn't last Friday in Laverys just terrific?

I was literally on another planet dancing in front of Mr Hook and he came from his decks and squeezed my hand, probably sensing I was absolutely wiped out and very 'happy'. He held onto my hand a while as he greeted other revellers.

Terrific night, made all the better by his amazing techno encore of Dead or Alive's "You spin me right round". Everyone was spinning around on the dancefloor!

Excellent. Sooner Peter's back in Belfast the better.

diegodigs77@hotmail.com is me.

Did you stay to they end then?

Cool. Did he have a good time? he seemed to be having a ball while I was still there.

If he enjoyed himself (and didn't meet any of the indigenous spides) he'll be back :)

Yeah man he definitely seemed to be enjoying himself like. He kept doing this kick with his foot when songs were kicking in. I'd say that as as sure a sign as any that he was enjoying himself. Good night like. I turned up to Laverys 3 times in a row last year to see Peter Hook but he never turned up for whatever reason(s)...so it was a relief almost to see him. I saw loads of photos being taken of us all dancing at the front. Anyone have any idea what magazine/newspaper they were for? Anyone else take photos?

Are they on Lavery's website?

I spoke to the photographer and he said he worked for Laverys. Does Laverys actually have a website?

Yeah. Lavery's

Yes, but that aint where the pics are. he said they keep em in a library downstairs, presuambly you can buy yerself a copy (it's a big thing in nightclubs in real cities apparently).

Me sis said she'd check in next time she's up that way ( kinda hopin she releases son v2.0 first though, don;t want her waters breaking when she's on a mission for me.

Hooky seemed to be totally blissed out while i was still about. His antic behind the decks were amusing as fuck, and not at all like a cocksucker DJ would be if they were actin up. Did you notice BTW how much of his mixing he did visually using either beat cue lights or automatch on the cd players (do I care if he used an automixer? no, I was not under the impression I was going to see coldcut or dj shadow, far as I was concerned, it was a big house party and this guy I knew had loads of good tunes would be there). Nerdy bit....he had the same mixer as we use for decks (ours is partied out tho).

A hell of a lot of bands and the like from "the brown isle", say that we're the mentalist audiences around (and I'm not talking about on stage when they say "it's great to be back in" and read the name from their hand.). I think it's because we are left out so often. Not every band comes here. And if sectarian violence isn't your bag, there's not a terrible amount to do in Belfast most evenings. You look at the "What's on" pages in London or Manchester. on any given night you may have a choice of a dozen or more theatre shows, 20 club nights, half a dozen bands you've heard of and inumerable smaller gigs. In Belfast you have the only decent theatre in the city perpetually filled up with panto's starrin May McFettridge and that fucking kiddie toucher off the news (the one that does school around the corner....Ulster parents are so pathetic they let their kids be humiliated by a tv crew and a pramgroper just to get themselves on telly). There's maybe one or two known bands a week. The rest of your choices are spide clubs, a gay club (still there?) poser clubs and noncey handbag music clubs, all of which open only at weekends, and most pubs have the standard issue N.I 4 or 5 piece rock band that's been in every pub since the early 80's ( they make them in bathces up at the old Delorean plant), utterly without any character of their own. I used to think only Bangor was tragic, but Rich has been up in Belfast for like 3 years and hardly bothers going out any more, cept round festival time when we both run round like blue arsed flies. In fairness things are moving forward in leaps and bounds.....nice of them, now that I'm outta the loop for the forseeable :(

So when anyone important comes to Belfast, we are instantly eternally grateful and utterly up for it, even if they suck. Many bands will open a tour in Ireland for that reason, they get a chance to shake down in front of an audience who are frankly easy pleased ( the southern lot get more entertainment and live in something slightly more removed from a 3rd world country(as long as you're in gobbin distance of Dublin or Cork :) ), but they are also genetically predisposed to partying like wildmen). mind you, we don;t mince words with bands what suck, and Gawd 'elp 'em if they start getting gobby. Chris very kindly reminded me of Dave Mustane's truly inspired "Victory to the IRA" ( which offended everyone, probaly including even the staunchest republican, cos who the hell is this prick to speak)...short gig that one, sadly the band as far as I know were not succesfully lynched. The facilities we offer a touring band however are probably a bit shite, most of them look really fucked off by the time they hit the stage (obviously this only applies to real bands, not those who live in a record company bubble), good job we cheer em up ain it. I doubt there's anywhere on the island where you could hire equipment to the spec you could get from the likes of Britania Row ( I mean, c'mon have you SEEN the kit Harry Baird hires? I've had amp racks delivered that look like a truck's hit em...with the whole fucking crossover matrix wired wrong, handy since I'd never seen one before at the time, so had to work it all out on the fly, at least if it's actually toast he'll bring you another for no cost), SO, you gotta bring your speakers (if you've got a few quid, you can fly your backline, but unless you own an airline you can forget airfreighting a bigrig), and that means trucks on ferries, long term PA hire and a whole pile of shite. New Order have had a checquered past here as you know. Kilkenny was great, then some unhappy dublin gigs and a barely contained riot in Belfast (from the sound of the tape), then another Dublin disaster, then Oxegen, which was bloody good. Maybe Hooky will be impressed at our riotous nature and talk the rest of em into the Ulster Hall after all. And here's an idea......don't do a fucking dublin show, it's about time those lucky shites had to do the Enterprise instead of us.
