Right then, it sounds like a good idea, let's make it happen.

We need various contributions:

  • designer of promotional material etc
  • people with venue contacts for gig/DJ
  • someone to organise football pitch (5 a side will do!)
  • promotion costs (which will be reimbursed by ticket sales, whether it be an individual or several of us who contribute the costs, or we find an alternative way of fundraising)

Probably best to get expressions of interest in forming a small organising committee, which can then go forward and select a date, location town etc. Would help us if we knew for sure that the Order weren't playing that night, no chance we will out about gigs until well after we've organised this!

Shall we look at something like February or March? Gives us plenty of time then.

Expressions of interest please!

Certainly. Prob best for March maybe? Or maybe it would be best to get it on one of the bank holiday weekends? Easter Saturday, anyone?

Top idea, if theres enough interest it may be worth trying to find out from organisers of Pontins weekenders how many you need, costs etc. Obviously they have the benefit of the band being prepared to play but we can have tribute bands instead.

Stranglers did it in 2001 and Marillion are still doing it.

Brean Sands is in Somereset so a long way for most though and school holidays (ie Easter) will probably be booked out anyway..

you can put the slightlynarrow soundsystem down for free entertainments as well. I can't commit Rich, not till I ask him anyway, so it might just be me, a bass and an mp3 player. Bit like NO really :)

I would be defo up for it and would contribute financially. The only problem for me is that i will be working abroad from Jan 5th till the end of March. Please will you think about putting it forward to April ? :(

Count me in! March or April would be just fine ... Nice idea, btw :thumb:

PS - I expect you lot to let me know at least a month before it happens so I can sort all my papers out.

What makes you think they want you back for a return engagement?!?!?!

now that I'm done with the insults...sounds like an interesting idea...and like Maya, I'd like to come over as well...

I promise this time around in England, I shall try not to lose my rucksack, fall down stairs, well...I suppose you all get the idea!

I'd be on for it, possibly Tricia too. Oh, and perhaps Chemical & his Mrs.

I'd also contribute financially and be happy to help organise and/or help with promotion to NOOLers.

Nice idea :thumb:

Oh yes bring it on. The Corby Scottish Order :D will fancy their chances in this. Myself, Steve, Eddie, Baldrick and Shug (if we can tempt him out of early retirement) will be confident of defeating the best teams you In-ger-lund boys can muster, we'll probably take the goalposts and the pitch home afterwards aswell. :evil4:

I was thinkin we should have it in a field in the precise geometric centre of fucking nowhere, so it's a cunt for EVERYONE to get to :) Count me RIGHT the fuck out of the footie.....screen goes wibbly wobbly....and we find ourselves in a bangor high school in the 80's........ "ok, we'll take the three legged anthrax infected chicken on our team if you take campbell"

you get the picture?

However, if anyone wants me to soundly thrash them at any racing game they care to mention, bring it on, I've raced GPL online, nothing a console has to offer will even raise a hair :D

Apart from that, the only other sporting activity I can be arsed with is fishing, and you'll never get me match angling.

Of course since I know absolutely fuck all about football, I could commentate.

I was always a rugby player. I'll leave the footie to the weedie boys...

Yes, rugby man gets his ear ripped off, they gaffer tape it back on and send him back into play. Footballer gets a hair tweaked or his wifes underpants ruffled and he's stretchered off.

Speaking of footbal....heard a joke today....probably a really old one, but I only just heard it...

Name 3 teams with swearing in their names

ARSEnal sCUNThorpe Utd. and FUCKING MAN U :duel:

In the interests of feminism we should also think about pre-booze activities for the ladies.

Perhaps they could put on a strip show for us?

or just wash/iron the footy kits...

Sounds like a grand idea. Easter Weekend could be good. If another set of hands is needed along the way then drop us a line. Cheers aeaf

What about the old spectrum arena in Warrington for the venue? The band played there in 1986 and to my knowledge it doesnt get used much these days. I once went to a rave there so I know its certainly big enough for five a side football etc. Bet it would be well cheap to rent out for a weekend.

Easter sounds good.

If it's London and on a Saturday I'll definately go.

Can we arrange for things to go on into the night; involving alcohol and NO / Hac related DJ stuff- that would be cool, then if me and others can't make the day we could come along at night...?

FANTASTIC IDEA BTW... Maybe we could make it a quarterly thing, moving around the UK, if it's a success (which i'm sure it will be).

My contribution will be the striptease Barney...There will be a mad exadus and we can easily get to the bar for a generous slurp!! :thumb:

Find a decent sized bit of land, p'haps an old sports club etc, who need the money - get a marquee, a mobile bar, a barbecue or something, hire in the equipment you want for your 'footie'; a DJ etc etc - much, much, much cheaper. You can all bring your sleeping bags and crash in the marquee then! (Also if it's a Club they will have toilet/shower facilities on site). Lots of the smaller clubs struggle these days and look at ways to 'rent' out their land etc to companies for their 'fun days' or 'team building' days - so worth thinking about.

I've just rang my mate who lives right near spectrum, he says its already got five a side pitches marked out on the wooden floor inside just like a school gym! BTW this is the place age of consent was recorded that is on the live CD from the RETRO box set...

Preliminary research I've done this morning has centred around venues that the Order have played, where music wasn't their primary usage. Macclesfield Leisure Centre is a good one, as is Gloucester Leisure Centre. If we are working on the principle that it will be Easter Monday, we'll have to put together a package (and the funding up front) to sell it to the prospective venues.

Several other bands have done fan conventions in the past (which is what this amounts to, essentially) - worth checking out their sites and finding out what can be done.

At this stage, we don't need to know who will be attending, which bands, DJs etc. Date and preferred location will have to be the first things to establish.
