Andy received tremendous news from pal Peter Hook today announcing that New Order WILL be playing Manchester v Cancer. He said, “It’s just fantastic news, the band had a meeting this week and decided to go for it!”
It’s a real coup for Manchester v Cancer and perfectly compliments it’s already stellar line up. Christie Hospital appeals director Toni Leden remarked “Just like the Christie itself, the band is a real Manchester institution and we're thrilled they're generous enough to donate their time to help our cause like this. I'm sure it will be a performance to remember.”
GREAT news........anyone coming out to play then? ![]()
Just got a call from Shug.
Excellent news.
So it's Saturday 28th January at the MEN Arena.
Doves and Badly Drawn Boy also confirmed and Charlatans a strong rumour.
Might get some Freebass with Andy Rourke and Mani also appearing.
Tickets on sale some time in December from here -

For me it'll have to be NOOL day, I think my insides will actually bail on me and go and donate themselves to someone else if I try another Mancunian coach oddessy too soon. Good God even Lavery's last night started to wear me down, and my intake for the night was 2 cokes (the liquid kind!). I have to get me passport sorted (rant, rave, spit-bile, yadda yadda, internal uk travel gibber seethe), so I can travel like a civilised human being when NOOLday comes around. Even if I had it right now, given how wrong i went at the apollo, can you imagine me when NO appear after a whole day of being couped up overheated and bassbattered. SO yeah, it's NOOLday for e I think, and thereafter i have high hopes of being fixed when the new racket is released so I can come out and do at least all the UK gigs next year.....never know I might even go over and give the US-order a chance to beat piss outta me for all those nasty things I say about that lovely president of theirs. Fuck it, if they play in Belgrade we'll all come see you Maya :-P.
Shug wrote: THANK FUCK it's on a weekend, nae holidays left till April......see you all there
You reckon you'll make work on the following Monday then?
Took you a couple of days to recover last time you were in Manchester. ![]()
Fuck me it took me nearly a week to make contact with planet earth again after the apollo and I wasn't even shitered. Then again I suppose the NO culture shock diminishes over time, you hardnut vikings are probably toughenned up to it a little.
No word of a venue on the site though? Fcuking hope it's not the MEN cos that would be SHITE. Does G-Mex still do gigs? Least that might be a tad more [ahem] 'intimate'. But still fcuking huge, mind.
EDIT. Just as an additional point. Does everyone think the strapline for this 'Manchester vs Cancer' is a little bit much. Doesn't sound like they had the marketing men on that one. The lad we got the dedication for at the Apollo, Phil Grubb, he passed away from cancer in May. Spoke to his brother last night saying that New Order are doing this Cancer Benefit, and he told me their Mum got taken by cancer as well, on Wednesday. There's only usually one winner when cancer's concerned, sadly, and giving it the big 'un, Manchester's taking on cancer, or whatever, doesn't wash with me. Just think they should play down the aggressive stance where cancer's concerned.
The Darlo order have also had a meeting today and agreed unanimously that it's a def. goer. 4 of us so far. ![]()
I would be up for that one. I'll be working in Switzerland but it would be worth coming back for a weekend, I reckon!
Dunno about the rest of the Stoke order though...![]()
How many songs do you think there will be?
I wont be going myself - its too late on in the year for a start.
That's the thing, a 30 min set after a day of paying 8.99 for a glass of water (cash to good cause or not, most likely not from the food/drink gougers), is not my idea of a good time. Of course, if I had the cash to spare I'd be off like a shot.

Do we know it's a 30 minute set? Of course I'll bloody be there.......
....anyone got a more fixed date for tickets going on sale?

Don't now, I'm trying to convince myself I'm not missing anything on this one. :)
