New Order - live - Queen Elizabeth Hall - 12/10/2006

According to this week's free London music magazine, One Week To Live, New Order are to play the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London as part of the John Peel tribute gigs on 12th October 2006, which gives us 6 months ( ) to plan in advance (a first, surely?)!!

As with last year, expect us all to miss the support bands, shout "New Order!" loudly, and annoy British Sea Power fans!

Wonder if they will give us a 20 minute rendition of the "seems like I've been here before" part from EGG? ;)

Oh, and the same article mentions (as well as quoting Roger Lyon's post on this very same forum - the "official" New Order website :p ) that Richard Ashcroft is likely to be the main singer with Freebass!

When I've got some sleep (just come back from an all-nighter in London), I'll scan the aforementioned article(s) in! :)

I guess that the use of the QEH is because Peely used to compere a lot of gigs there, etc?

Which is exactly how I read it, that it was the product of dufus journo not knowing arse from elbow. Never occurred to me that it might be a real gig, and my initial response to Nick's post was in that vein!

Well, the magazine didn't come out on 1st April, and my post wasn't on the 1st April, so they would have got the dates wrong! :)

As for the date, the gig last year was the day before the John Peel Day, wasn't it, so that they could pre-record it for the actual day the next day?

As for the QEH choice of venue, apparently it was a special venue with regards to Peely?:

"Peel's widow, Sheila Ravenscroft, said she "was looking forward to what should be a terrific night". She said she and her family had been to some "incredible gigs involving John over the years" at Queen Elizabeth Hall."

But, yeah, until anything concrete comes up, I'll treat it as a possibility, as opposed to a definite! :)

Yes, last year's QEH gig was the 12th November, and Peel Day was the 13th.

QEH was a favoured venue of Peelie's, only recently saw the TV documentary of Ivor Cutler playing there. Wonderful memories.
