your services are required on NOOL's Blue Saturday.

Anyone who is thinking of recording the bands, please do so, provided we can have a copy with a view to putting it out as an official release from the site. The plan is to do a compilation CD from the event, obviously we'll be getting a soundboard feed but it is always great to have audience recordings as well, so we can produce a really high quality product that will do the event justice. And it's all for charity, so you can feel good about buying it!

I'll be bringing at least one camera too Tim, so hopefully get some good shots and blurb too.

If someone can hand me a DAT or minidisc ( or even laptop) I will attempt to connect it properly to the mixer if the in house guys don't shoot me for trying. I will also try and sweet talk them into a stereo ambient mic being fed to the tape in small amounts, to take a bit of the cold desk mix feel out of it.

Well yes we can, but it is always good to have audience sourced recordings as well. I've never bought into this idea that the soundboard recording is far superior to anything else - with many NO gigs they sound flat and lifeless, a far cry from the gig themselves. Too much ambient sound is lost for me. Obviously the soundboard recording as video soundtrack would be better as you have the visual element (and mixed-in audience recordings) to help with the overall package.

I'll be looking for a sound integration volunteer after the event to mix together the soundboard recording with audience recordings to give us a nice balanced sound.
