Middlesbrough Rock Garden was at the end of Newport Road near the roundabout. When it closed it went through various re-incarnations (The Cavern etc) before finally becoming more widely known as The Arena. The Arena closed a few years back but is currently being refurbished and is expected to open in September as a club & music venue. As an aside, I have some photographs I took when New Order played the Rock Garden (I have the date recorded as 24th January 1981 on the wallet the photos are in) if anyone wants to see them.

I'm sure we'd all love to see the Rock Garden photos if you can scan them to digital.

How about the set list? That'd be fairly special as it's missing from the Live section

Hooky singing on two photos gives a clue, DNE, Doubts even here or both?

Could be Mesh as well, the last known performance had only been a month earlier. DEH on the other hand was first played as an instrumental in March that year.

Cheers for the photos! :thumb: The date of this gig is 17th Feb 1981 in most gigographies, BTW.

So when were the Gillian Pics taken? If it's in 1977, then this Gillian Gilbert biography in NOOL is wrong.

Indeed!

Heres my 3rd post, but nothing spectacular I'm afraid. I have a book (Joy Division New Order A History In Cuttings) which gives the date as 11th January 1981, a date which I've seen on various other web sites. But I've got the date recorded as 24th January on the wallet the photos are in. The 24th January was a Saturday night, which was the regular night for gigs at the RocK Garden back then. I'm absolutely convinced the 24th is the correct date.

I've got a gig list, which I think is based on the Water Rats site information, with it dated 11th Jan 81.

This site's concert browser has it down as 17th Feb 81 which is a date that probably came from Mark Johnson's book An Ideal for Living

I'm more inclined to believe a guy who was actually there taking photos
