In a World Exclusive, Get Loaded is bringing Shaun Ryder’s Black Grape to The Coronet for their first live performance since 1997! The band are reuniting to coincide with the release of Shaun’s greatest hits album this summer and seven years after Get Loaded successfully reformed his previous incarnation the Happy Mondays, we are delighted to present another legendary comeback!

As one of the most successful bands to emerge from Manchester in the 1990’s, following in the footsteps of The Stone Roses, New Order and The Charlatans, Black Grape’s debut album ‘It’s Great When You’re Straight… Yeah’ charted at number one in 1995. The critical and commercial success of the album represented one of the most triumphant comebacks in rock & roll history and featured three top twenty singles including the brilliant ‘Reverend Black Grape’, ‘In the Name of the Father’ and ‘Kelly’s Heroes’, as well as the iconic pop art image of Carlos The Jackal on the album’s cover. Two further top ten singles followed in 1996 with ‘Fat Neck’ and football anthem ‘England’s Irie’ (recorded with The Clash’s Joe Strummer no less), resulting in the band being asked to take the headline slot of that year’s Reading Festival alongside The Stone Roses and Rage Against The Machine.

Coming to Get Loaded this Easter for their first live show in over 12 years, the return of Black Grape is sure to be an extraordinary and exhilarating experience full of wall-to-wall anthems. Black Grape were a massive inspiration to me growing up although I wasn’t lucky enough to catch them first time round. For Black Grape to agree to host this reunion as part of an intimate club show makes this even more special! Must admit after discovering it in a second hand record shop I like most of the Black Grape debut much more than some of the more hyped Mondays stuff; definitely a handful of good tunes there. Fair play to them it was the polar opposite of BritPop at the time but still put a boot up the charts pretty convincingly.

I'd only pay (marginally) to go and witness Ryder's new Colgate smile :D but even then

My sister ended up going back to a "party" at Kermit's in Manchester in the mid 90s. When she gets there it turns out the party actually consists of her and Kermit. She saw some things that night that put her off drugs for life.........

Fuckin hell Ryder must be desparate! If he cannae make a Happy Mondays reunion pay how does he hope to make a pound note by re-forming the Monday's less succesful and lower profile spin-off project?

I have fond memories of a Black Grape gig that I can't repeat here.

Only saw them the once, supporting the Stone Roses in 1995. They'd turned up late and were still soundchecking long after the doors were supposed to open. The result: half-mile long queue of people in t-shirts outside the venue in the middle of December listening to the muffled clatter of "Rev. Black Grape" etc. Fucking freezing it was.

And then, after all that, they were shit - a painfully under-rehearsed shambles. If Kermit had shock smack into his todger and then keeled over dead on stage the entertainment value would have increased by approximately 99%.

The 90s feel a long way away now, don't they?

That picture of Shaun that they're using in the fliers is pretty funny though.

went to see black grape in liverpool, ryder arrived onstage, flying low with brookside's barry grant totally off it. Things went rapidly downhill after that!

anyone gan then, seen ne reviews on the internet, apparantly its a different 'band' to the ones hes using in Manc on sun for his solo show

saw them at livingston, fuck knows what year,early on anyway, only thing i remember was i was steaming and there was a big fight down the front with a load of casuals,(do we still say casuals?) oh and i was working the next morning, very rough i was.

Am sure i seen them at Balloch as on of the supports to Oasis in the early '90's,cant mind much of it though, it was a big bag of strong weed we had

I'm confused. I'm sure that when the Black Grape reunion was announced a month or two ago it was clearly stated that Kermit would be part of it, and now, very clearly, here is not.

It would also seem there is no Bez either, indeed in one recent interview when asked about Bez Shaun responded "last I heard he was doing ok" - has there been some falling out? Again?!
