I'll be there. Bought my ticket this morning in Canberra. Can't wait going to be an ace gig.

I'm getting so excited for this gig and the festival on the Saturday.

I'll be recording both in HD, along with the Hooky Q&A and Closer show in April.

So far we have two exclusives: Round & Round and Here To Stay.

Fingers crossed Sydney is treated to something unique as well on both days.

Saw New Order play Festival Hall in Melbourne 2 nights ago, Ceremony, Perfect Kiss, Temptation, LWTUA all standouts but really the entire gig was fantastic. Now flying back to my new hometown of Newcastle NSW and thinking of driving down to the Hordern Pavilion on Weds for the Sydney show. Anyone know any NO fans in Newcastle who might want to share a roadtrip to/from the gig???

Hello Nick, welcome to NOOL.

I normally will be in Newie but I've taken the day off on Wednesday - big significant day for me :D - so I will already be in Sydney the night before. Btw, one of the ladies next to me that night in Festival Hall, she's from Newcastle (small world) & she used to go to uni same time as me as well!!!..unfortunately she's now based in the Dandenongs with her hubbie...

Just created this FB album with photos, etc, if you want to check out my plans. :)

Sydney - New Order + Peter Hook Gigs: Before / After

So, here is the plan: Leave work 3pm this Wednesday and go straight to venue. Have all 3 batteries charged for the HD camera, get a front row standing spot and record entire gig with fantastic close-ups as I've previously done with Gary Numan, NIN, etc. Taking the sleeves for Brotherhood (favorite New Order album), Substance and WFTSC with me (the latter more for Phil Cunningham if I meet him, as he only played on that album and Get Ready in 2001). Got my sharpies. Got my shit prepared. The VIP seating for the festival on Saturday sounds really nice, too. Have a read.

//

Regarding the Peter Hook Q & A and subsequent gig for "Closer," they SAY "5 items signed," but Gary Numan signed a ton more than that for people when I saw him, so I'm taking extra vinyls just in case. Plus the set list and photo with Hooky from 2010 to see if he remembers me!

//

So meeting Hooky again is a given (got the VIP package), but I have my fingers, toes and balls crossed that I get to have a drink, take photos and have those New Order sleeves signed by Bernard, Gillian, Steve and Phil after the show, or in the interim between then and the Saturday festival.

//

Note: this album will be constantly updated until after the final show with Hooky on April 14. Wish me luck!

Couldn't help it - had to buy the CD version of the Brotherhood reissue today as well to go with the vinyl. Best NO album ever (imo).

thanks for posting back. With no F3 travel partners readily available I've opted to travel on the slowest train in the world but I will be there - Festy Hole gig was too good not to see a (hopefully) repeat performance!

Jealous of your gig listing.

Enjoy the show :-)))

Thanks, Nick , you too !!:thumb:

Btw, did you know that back in 1987 New Order was supposed to come to Newcastle - they've even printed the date & venue 'Newcastle Workers Club' at the back of tour t-shirt - but changed the venue in last minute to Hotel Dee Why (I think, from memory..) I was gutted.....

I'll be there. I never completely gave up hope on seeing New Order live after the 2007 fracas. I missed them in 2002 and I only got into New Order in 1987 as a 14 year old and since I was living in country Vic I miised that tour as well.

Now the only problem is the flooding roads up here in SE QLD. Hopefully I can get to Brisbane airport so I can fly down to Sin City.

Never knew that! Tour listing I got from Factory back in Jan/Feb 87 said Sydney Dee Why, no Newcastle listing at all.

anyone still have the 1987 oz tour t-shirt? i'm sure the back of tee showed tour dates & venues with newcastle in it instead of dee why. i lost my tee way back but i remember it had 'brotherhood' cover pic printed one-sided on front of tee.

unless newcastle was never meant to be included and the local booking agency mixed up the venues, etc..:confused2:

i could still remember it was big news for new order to play newcastle...you see newcastle in the 80s was a pretty dead town with high percentage of aged population. Young ppl were only there in the city for the university so Feb 87 was pretty quiet due to the university holidays. Maybe it was poor ticket sales that caused the cancellation & venue change?

Possibly down to poor pre-sales, yes. Mind you, Byron Bay was two nights before, was that all that big a show? I did recall reading a review of the E/SE coast shows back in the day, can't find the clipping now. Very detailed though about the various shows.

Urrggh don't speak of that tour. I'm still gutted. Just a bit too young to sneak into the two Perth gigs - licensed venues Canterbury Court and Red Parrot. My world revolved around NO back then and it took me another 11 years to actually see them live.

:\pimp3:

Between late 80's and late 90's I wore out 2 NO, 2 JD and a Warsaw tee. They were all threadbare before I tossed them. Anyone who still owns a readable '87 tour tee was into vacuum seal technology at a time when they should have been into beer. Doesn't mean I wouldn't give a nad to own one!

If NO continue what they have started and print venue-specific tee's for this tour is anyone going for the straight flush? Big ask getting between the 2 Future Music's.

I've only lived in Newcastle a few years so shouldn't judge but from what I hear of the city during BHP-era the NWC may have booked them then had a listen and said "Hey these guys don't sound like Barnesy, Choir Boys OR Rose Tattoo!!! Cancel!" So Dee Why it was.

Yep, but I got one of the VIP tickets overlooking both main stages (cost around $300, has its own personal bar, etc), so I'll be filming tonight from the pit and FMF from a distance, but my camera has amazing zoom.

I went to the back of the Enmore in 2010 and that's how I met Hooky. Let's go round the back of the Hordern tonight!

I'm the guy wearing black jeans, black button up shirt and black leather jacket, about 5'6 wearing sunglasses. Leaving work at 2:30 pm today and going straight to the Hordern.

Pretty windy/chilly outside today. Taking a small umbrella in my pocket just in case.

Any particular surprises you're hoping for? Mr. Disco would make me crap my pants.

Yea, i got VIP tix for FMF as well...curious to see how good will those exclusive VIP seating/platform gonna be..??

Do it! I met Gary at his hotel in Melbourne in 2009, along with the rest of his band (minus one keyboard player) and his wife, then again May 2011 at a meet and greet.

Also met Ade Fenton (his main co-writer and keyboardist) at a bar in Sydney and his then-guitarist, got photos etc on Facebook.

Having done that, and Hooky, and Hooky again at the meet and greet in April, I just damn well HAVE to meet Bernard and co. tonight!

What's your name by the way? Looks like we'll be seeing each other quite a bit.

Good luck! If they play anything awesome/crapping pants worthy, I still want to vicariously hear it through phone call, you bastard!

Still not massively keen on the run of tracks in the middle... I genuinely started to lose interest at the Troxy, so I hope by the time they get back to the UK there is even a little bit more variety, even if it's just in terms of the running order... R&R will be a welcome addition though... Never a favourite off Technique but has grown on me significantly in recent years...

I wouldn't bother if I were you. Have you not been reading the main forum?

It's all pre-recorded, apparently.

It's played during their half-time break. The band all wander off-stage to have a nice cuppa tea and a sitdown leaving Tom to dance around a bit, attempt some backing vocals and mime to some of Hooky's pre-recorded basslines.

Cambo and Jed are getting all High and Mighty about it.

It's been reported on the NME site as well now.

Very long story short (I'll elaborate later): entire gig filmed from the front, middle.

Met the band afterwards, got autographs and videos of me and Bernard and Stephen talking, photos with all current band members. Will upload everything in the next day or two.

Holy shitballs! Then just got my Hooky meet and greet package in the mail for Closer with the laminate, etc.

Didn't get a set list sheet, but when I went backstage Stephen let me take one off the wall.

I'm truly blessed. And still have Gillian's lipstick on my left cheek...

Highlight of Bernard's banter last night before 1963: "What's your name? Speak clearly. One at a time so I can hear you properly. Ok, you first. 'Fuck off you pommy bastard?' Ok, you next. 'Give your love to Robert Smith?' Will do! Oh, I know what you're saying, we're playing with The Cure, aren't we? Well, not 'playing' with them, not like Michael Jackson used to. What's your name? Gianni? Are you Italian? Ok, I'll say hi to Robert Smith for you."

Uploading first video (1 of 9) now: Elegia, Crystal and Regret.

At one point during Crystal the very happy-looking (ha) security guard asked me if the camera recorded video. I said yeah, and takes photo.. (um?), and he said photos can only be taken. So I said "ok!" and pretended to be snapping photos the whole time while I was actually recording.

That's the way it's done folks!

No worries guys.

I have the videos for Round & Round, Here to Stay, 1963, Krafty, Bizarre Love Triangle, True Faith and 5 8 6 uploading at home now while I'm at work. They should be done by this afternoon, then will upload the rest tonight. Should all be available to view before I leave for the Future Music Festival gig on Saturday which I'll be up in the VIP seats for shooting from a distance this time.

Only two imperfections in the videos for Hordern: I accidentally hit stop during 5 8 6, so a tiny bit of that is missing and appears at the beginning of the next video for The Perfect Kiss. Also, my battery ran out towards the end of Temptation, so I stuck a new one in and that one is split as well like 5 8 6. But essentially only about 45 seconds or so of the gig is missing.

Here's something funny I forgot to mention: after I gave Gillian the big wrap-around hug photo, she walks up to me and Bernard while we were sitting down and goes "Ryan, give him the "special pose"!", so I wrapped my arms around him and she took a photo with her phone or camera. I have no idea where that photo will turn up. LOL

Also, Stephen Morris took those photos of me and Phil Cunningham. Lovely bunch of people, so bloody nice.

Good work getting that front row footage. Your digicam seems to have a limiter that shuts out the bass & drops the rec levels whenever there's any, unfortunately. I've posted up some videos which have awesome bass, just like on the night.

One of the members who posts here got Andy (band's management) to let us backstage just 'cause he's a nice bloke. Also knowing Norbert (confusion) helped. :)

It was really just about standing around and asking if I might be able to pop back really. That, friendly helping people and luck.

Awesome! Good to have best of both worlds. :)

I think it was mainly because it was indoors and I was further up. I just watched my video of Blue Monday from the festival yesterday (I'll be posting it soon) and the bass can be heard much clearer given that it was an outside gig.
