Surely this was said tongue-in-cheek. I think it's a reference to Led Zeppelin and (not?) surprisingly, Robert Plant himself is featured on the video.

yeah and Plant says something like "i´ve been on the road for 25 years and i saw these guys twice!". funny comment. :D
Maybe there's a nod to the KLF in there too. Can't remember whether the years tie up or not but KLF left a dead sheep outside the Brit Awards ceremony when they won something and promptly split up.
I think Barney mentioned he had just read the Led Zepplin bio ("Hammer of The Gods"? Something with "Gods" in it) when he was talking about the sheep sacrifice, saying that he thought that might improve their careers if they tried it.
On a related note, they reportedly sacrificed a skunk before going in to record "World in Motion" ![]()

There's nothing wrong with "World in Motion", although the No Alla Violenza mix has an awful final thirty seconds, but the original is an awesome track

so (back to the thread) they didn´t sacrificed a sheep before Blue Monday?
i think if it was true it had to be mentioned somewhere on 24HPP. Tony Wilson would have loved that story. and surely he would have mentioned something about it. ![]()

I like it; I believe it's what you call a 'Feel Good Record'. 1990 was a wonderful summer and this was the anthem.
Do people genuinely not like it musically, or is it just the lyrical content / rap which offends them? If they sang an alternate lyric about, ooh I dunno, beaches and buildings, would the track be acceptable then?
John Barnes though, scummer.
Though Brazil was eliminated by Argentina in Italy World Cup 90 that year this song makes me remember the great campaign of the English team.

Musically it is fine - I tend to think of it as an instrumental track that had some words added.
Originally posted by Love Will Tear Us Apart What was John Barns' team in the English League? I am sure it wasn't yours,Timbo
W*tf*rd and Liverpool.
Didn't he end up in Newcastle for a season too, though probs best not to mention that?

Damn right it wasn't, and just as well. We only have time for people who will get stuck in. Sod the quality, feel the late tackle !
Who did John Barnes score that fantastic individual goal against in an England shirt. You know... the one where he breezed past three defenders as if they were'nt there?
Oh yes, I remember.
BRAZIL!

I also remember that we were stolen in Wembley too.A legal goal annuled and a plain penalty not marked.
I prefer remembering the good moments Clive, like 1970 and 2002,this last we won with only 10 players ![]()
Julian Barnes, Beckman... You Brazilians really don't know how to spell the players' names of England team, do you? ![]()

Which one, Bush or Reagan? ![]()
Not to be disrespectful, but I almost look forward to ole Ronnie's passing away. Only then can Republicans finally deify him as a "god among men" who "blessed us with his presence" and "made us feel glad to be Americans". I can almost guarentee Reagan will get the Augustus Caesar treatment, like he was some divine blessing to the country ![]()
now Trevor...how can you piss on Ronnie that way...when he took office, we were feeling fairly low...the economy was in a shambles...the Iran hostage thing had drug on for waaaaaaaay too long...and there wasn't a whole lot for us to be proud about...then the Miracle on Ice happened...and suddenly we had something to be proud of, and the Gipper took the ball and ran with it...
oh wait....defecit spending...tax breaks for the rich...hey...he is starting to sound like Dubbya...
actually...he was one of the better presidents we have had...
it's always interesting to see how these guys look later on...almost everyone idolizes JFK for his programs...but the fact of the matter is that JFK got very few of his programs through while he was alive...it took LBJ and all the clout that he had accumulated during his years in the legislative branch to bring most of the programs to fruition...and now all LBJ is remembered for is killing kids in Vietnam...funny, isn't it???
and having just seen this thread again...what the fook has any of this got to do with sacrificing sheep and getting blue monday???
could you tossers please stay on topic???

I don't think New Order killed a sheep, perhaps barney was thinking of the sex pistols when they killed a deer (who killed Bambi?) for the back cover of The Great Rock "N" Roll Swindle album.

Hey, I remember the sheep thing really upsetting me. But I easn't online untill today. Aren't there animal protection laws in England that would ban animal sacrifition for busines sucess ?

Kosher??? :barf:
I'm concerned. There appear to be people on this forum that actually believe New Order sacrificed a sheep. ![]()

but i had my doubts though. that´s why i opened this thread. ![]()
Football supporters from a Croatian seaside town sacrified a rooster before a match once. They're the same ones that recently dug graves in the pitch after their team lost a UEFA qualifier. They got the stadium suspended. And I seem to remember Tottenham doing the same. People would do all sorts of strange things.

Maybe there's an Emulator or two out there with nothing but sampled animal murder noises.
An interesting instrumental (even though only Ted Nugent would appreciate it)
